Rebirth

Zephyr Claudius Philius felt a slight disturbance in the darkness. He could feel his body being pulled from his fleshy cocoon, and the liquid that once kept him warm and comfortable drained out. He didn’t need anyone to tell him what was happening. ‘It’s finally time…’ He went with the flow, allowing himself to be pulled out of the womb of whoever was currently birthing him. ‘I’ve been waiting patiently. Finally… it’s time!’ Zephyr Claudius Philius—also known as The Boundless by many—had been in this cocoon for quite a while. The passage of time was blurry for him, but Zephyr could remember how it was when he first gained consciousness. At first, he couldn’t feel anything. It just seemed like he was an incorporeal ball of meat. He couldn’t even form rational thought. However, the more time elapsed, the more he acclimated to the new state of his body He could feel everything around him fade in and out, and he constantly required rest for some reason. His movements were also restricted in this period, so he spent his time in only one position. After a bit of this pointless dance, Zephyr had been formed to the point where he could finally make rational thought. That was when he decided his next course of action. ‘I should create my first Magic Circle.’ He was unaware of the state of the world he would find himself in. Was it at war? Was there peace? Would he be in danger? Since he didn’t know any of this, Zephyr figured the best he could do to have some semblance of control over his fate was to begin his training. For a Mage, thag training began with a Mana Circle. … And after a while, he got the hang of it. He was able to form his first Mana Circle. ‘It took me very long because I had to take a lot of breaks. I also couldn’t absorb too much Mana, else my Host would suffer for it…’ If something happened to the woman pregnant with him, there was a chance he would die As a result, Zephyr exercised moderation in all he did. ‘I could have formed a Mana Circle within a day in my past life, but it took me years to create just one Mana Circle.’ The quality was good, since he was the one who made it, but a Mana Circle’s efficacy and difficulty only got higher the more Mana Circles were added to one another. As a result, if he wanted a second, Zephyr knew he would have to work at least five times as hard, while also draining a lot more Mana. But, since he couldn’t afford that, this was the best he could do. ‘This isn’t enough, but… it’ll suffice as a foundation.’ And now, he was being brought into the world. Zephyr couldn’t help but smile within himself. ‘Whatever world awaits me, I will make sure to brave the tides and reach out for my goals no matter what… just like in my past life!’ Zephyr didn’t know this yet, but the kind of place that awaited him was much different from what even his cautious mind expected. It was a brutal place—one where the steeping devoured the weak, and where one thing reigned supreme. Martial Arts! This was a Martial Arts World, the land of the strong. And it just got one new member. The question was whether the new addition to their world would be able to inculcate the culture of this world and survive. The answer… was yet to be revealed. ******* Kuvira felt a sudden rush of energy as soon as she finished birthing her child. She had heard it was the opposite for women who just concluded labor, but it seemed her case was different from what she had heard from others. Throughout her pregnancy, she constantly felt weak. Everyone told her this was normal, but the drain she felt was within her Martial Core. It kept being drained at an absurd pace, and in order to prevent it from happening too much, she had to spend most of her pregnancy days meditating to restore the lost Qi that she had lost. It seemed like a never-ending cycle, but now it seemed that was all over. “Haaaa…” She smiled as she practically shot out the child from her womb. It felt like a burden was finally removed from her insides, and the slightly unstable energy within her finally settled. “Congratulations, Kuvira. It is a boy.” Kuvira felt a smile tugging at her lips—not for herself, but for the husband that wasn’t present. ‘Chiron will be pleased…’ She thought to herself. Chiron was her husband, and while they were a very happy couple—one known across the village—he couldn’t make it to the childbirth. “Haaaa…” Kuvira could see the ceiling above her properly, as well as the surroundings that barricaded her. She was currently in a thatched hut, with a lot of baskets and clothes in sight. The smell of herbs tingled her nose as she inhaled deeply. “Let me see him.” As Kuvira was shown her child, her bright green eyes widened in wonder. The child had pure white hair and purple eyes. His pale skin and fragile-like features also seemed to indicate weakness, but why was she sending so much power from him? “He’s going to be a great warrior, like his father.” “Indeed. And an attractive one like his mother.” Kuvira also had an exotic pale skin, and her pure black hair drew the attention of anyone that saw her due to how glossy and long it appeared. None in the village were fairer than she was, and the two midwives before her could not emphasize it enough. “At the very least, he had my husband’s face.” Kuvira smiled at her child. He had her pale skin, and his facial features were her husband’s. She didn’t know where he got his eyes and hair from, but she knew there was only one man she had been with all her life. It was none other than Chiron. “Why does the child not cry, though? Is this normal?” Kuvira’s question was legitimate, as she had heard that children often cried when they were born. The midwives also looked a bit surprised by the child’s silence. However, there was nothing to be done. “We tried s******g him a few times, but…” “It seems the child refuses to cry.” Kuvira couldn’t help but smile. “It seems I have birthed a battle-hardened warrior like his father.” “Surely, Lord Chiron would be proud.” “Indeed. He indeed will…” As Kuvira leaked out one more smile, she drifted off to sleep, keeping the oddly stoic face of her child in her head as she did so. ‘I wonder… what we should name him.’
