THEY’D BEEN HOME from Iowa for a week—and Chris had an appointment to keep. As soon as his shift was over, he headed for I-95 and made his way south to Butler Boulevard, which took him to the exit for the Mayo Clinic. He had a final appointment with Dr. Banzhof before he and Mickey went to Maggie Valley for the Fourth of July weekend.
Dr. Banzhof examined him thoroughly, and when Chris was again dressed and seated in the doctor’s office, he waited for the doctor to say something.
