CHRIS SETTLED DOWN at his computer, called up his ‘to do’ list, and entered a date beside the entry labeled ‘contact Q re surveillance’. When he opened his e-mail, he found a very welcome report attached to a message from their Realtor friend Rion Murphy. The attachment was an appraisal of his paternal grandparents’ house, so he printed it out and studied it carefully. Then he compared it to the appraisal his cousin Arnold had sent him. Looks like the Realtors in that town are fairly honest, he thought. These appraisals are only a couple thousand dollars apart.
He composed an e-mail to his cousin, suggesting a dollar amount halfway between the two appraisals, attached the report Rion had sent him, and clicked ‘send’.
