CHAPTER 9: A CAKE TOO SWEET
ELODIE'S POV
“This is really beautiful,” I say, my voice soft, almost caught between awe and disbelief, and she chuckles in that effortless way of hers, pride bubbling just beneath the surface.
“Yeah, I know,” she teases, eyes gleaming as she adjusts the piping bag in her hand. “I mean, come on, you can’t doubt my level of expertise in catering activities.” Her mock pride makes me laugh, the sound slipping out of me before I can even hold it back, and I shake my head, reaching forward to pat her hand playfully.
“But I’m not done anyway,” she continues, glancing at me from the corner of her eye as if she’s daring me to interrupt. “I was just about to add the finishing touches before I noticed you guys hovering.”
