Naomi’s POV I didn’t sleep. Not really. I laid down earlier and closed my eyes for a while, hoping for myself to sleep. To let the exhaustion pull at my limbs like water, but my mind was loud, like...so f*****g loud. Every time I drifted, I heard the gunshot again. Not just the sound, but the space it created in my head and my surrounding like silence had been torn open and left bleeding. I got up when the sky was still that whitish shade of purple. The fires were still burning, though smaller now. The coals looked like glowing hearts in the dark. We had survived today. Today was so scary for me. Marcus just threw me out into the open like that, asking me to address the people. If I say I wasn’t scared at that moment, I would be a damn liar and would be cast into the abyss for lying.
