On the way to the airport, Shine sat quietly at the back of the minivan.
Everyone else was talking about the departure. Shine was thinking about how he would survive in another country alone at that age. He knows no one in that country.
Soon enough the family arrived at the airport.
The kids walked in with their luggage while their parents walked behind them.
Everyone checked their boarding time and went to sit down.
"So kids, your mom and I will send you money to use. You will be staying in the school dormitories," Mr. Frederick informed the kids.
They are now going to start university. At the age of 14, Shine has been great with his studies. Sarah's twins are 19 years old, but not serious enough. Deon is also 17 years old. She only knows how to spend money lavishly. The twins and Deon did not graduate early from their previous school so they had to start university with Shine.
“Dad, send me plenty money because I can’t stay a day without money” Deon said.
“You will have to learn how to save money. We won’t be sending you money frequently.” Mr. Fredrick said.
“Why are you saying that to her. She is a girl and need to be pampered, she doesn’t need to go through hardship” Sarah defended Deon.
“You can send your salary to her all the time, as for me, I won’t do that”
They kept arguing over their staying in abroad.
Time went fast, soon it was time for Shine to board the plane. He was the first to leave. He was going to Paris.
“Son, everything has been settled already. If you need anything call me. I will also be sending you allowance” Mr. Fredrick told Shine and handed him a new phone to be using.
Shine looked at the phone given to him with mixed emotions.
The phone symbolizes a connection to Mr. Fredrick and a way to stay in touch while he's in a new country. The phone also provides Shine with a sense of security and reassurance, knowing that he can reach out to Mr. Fredrick whenever he needs to. Plus, having a new phone can be exciting and opens up opportunities for Shine to explore and navigate his new surroundings. He also felt down because apart from Mr. Fredrick, he had no other person to use the phone to contact.
“Take good care of yourself, okay?”
“Okay, dad. Thank you for this opportunity, I won’t disappoint you.” Shine reassured Mr. Fredrick.
They gave each other a hug. Shine later said good bye to Sarah and the kids before leaving.
When it was time to board the plane, passengers including Shawn lined up according to their seat numbers.
They presented their boarding passes and passports to the airline staff at the gate. Then, they walked through the jet bridge and onto the plane.
The flight attendants greeted them and directed them to their seats. Once everyone was on board, the plane prepared for takeoff.
On the Paris plane........
Hostess; “please, the plane is about to take off so make sure you are seated. Thank you.”
Soon the plane took off.
Shine took in a sharp air to calm his nerves down.
“Lord, thank you for this opportunity granted to me. I pray that you guide my path. Take us to our destination in peace, Amen.” He made short prayer before relaxing on his seat.
Since the flight was 12hours, he slept for a while.
Shine woke up an hour to 12hours.
He visited the washroom and came back to his seat.
Another hour later the plane finally landed in Paris.
The passengers including Shine got down from the plane. He quickly did his check in then went out to catch a cab to his new school.
He gave the cab driver his location and sat down peacefully.
“We are here” the cab driver said.
“Alright “ he quickly paid for the ride and got down.
He walked in the through the school gate and asked for the administration office from the security man. After being directed, he went straight to the office and completed his admission.
“Please, can I have my room key”
“Two of your roommates are already in, you are in room 205” the administrator said to him.
“Alright, sir. Please, I will be taking my leave then.” He said before leaving.
On his way, people kept looking at him with weird expressions because of his appearance and how young he looks.
It is a rich school. Only people from rich families attend that school. Shine was not dressed luxurious so people were looking down on him.
He didn’t care about them. Shine walked straight up to the door of his room and knocked on it.
Someone opened from the inside.
“Who are you “ 1st roommate asked.
“Hi, I am called Shine. Your new roommate “
“Oh, come in” 1st roommate said and moved aside for Shine to enter.
“Hello, my name is Shine. I hope we get along well in the room.”
“I am Emerson.” 2nd roommate answered.
“I am Kendrick.“ 1st roommate said.
They shook hands.
“Man you are small, why? You don’t eat?” Kendrick asked.
Kendrick is sociable and jovial. His words hurt because he talks without thinking. He is from a rich family. Because he was stubborn at home so his family brought him to the school hostel.
POV; On the way to the airport, Shine sat quietly, feeling anxious about being alone in a new country. His family arrived at the airport, checked their boarding times, and sat down. Mr. Frederick informed the kids about sending them money for their stay. There was some arguing about staying abroad. Finally, it was time for Shine to board the plane to Paris. His dad assured him that everything was settled and handed him a new phone, which held mixed emotions for Shine.
