A journey abroad

“Father, you are back “ he said, stepping aside to let Mr Fredrick to enter.

“Yes, dear. How was your day?“

Shine didn’t want to cause any problems, so he replied “it was okay”.

“Good to hear that. Well, I was thinking of sending you abroad to continue your education. Do you want that or not”

Shine was thrilled to hear this, as it meant he would be safe from the maltreatment from mother and children.

“Yes!” he exclaimed with a big smile plastered on his face.

“That’s great. So start getting ready, you will be leaving on Friday”.

“Alright”

With only two days to go, so Shine was filled with happiness.

“Good night,son”

“Good night, father”

The next day, Shine made sure not to annoy anyone. He woke up early and helped the house-helps with the chores.

He mowed the grass and watered the flowers.

In the afternoon, the delivery guy brought a parcel containing the visa and passport. Shine took them and went inside. He called Mr Fredrick to inform him about the delivery.

Shine was instructed to check the names and give the passports to his siblings.

Sarah went to work early, while the kids were in their rooms, feeling grumpy.

Actually, Mr. Fredrick was sending all of them abroad to school, but they were going to different countries.

No one knew that Shine will be going as well, since Mr Fredrick chose not to inform them.

Mr Fredrick was well aware of the way they had been treating Shine, which is why he came up with the idea of sending them abroad to study.

Elijah, Elisha and Deon were not happy about leaving their mother alone.

Shine went to knock on Deon’s door and handed her parcel.

He did the same with the twins before heading to his room to pack.

When the kids received their visa’s, they were furious.

Deon, in particular, had been in a bad mood since she got her visa. She thought her dad was joking when he said it. She didn’t want to suffer abroad alone.

They thought their father wanted to sack them away and have only Shine by his side so they can bully their mother. That thought made them decided not to go abroad. So they did not pack their luggage.

In the evening all the family had their meal in an awkward manner.

No one spoke at the table.

They went to their rooms after the meal.

“Knock,knock,knock “ Sarah knocked on her daughter’s door.

A minute later the door was opened from inside.

“Mum, why are you here”

“Is that how to talk to your mom. Your tone is not appropriate “ Sarah reprimanded her daughter.

Deon annoyingly moved aside for her mother to come in before closing the door.

“Honey, you haven’t packed your things. What is the matter “ Sarah asked her.

“Nothing “

“Your flight is early morning. You don’t have to be reckless”.

“Okay mom. Please it’s late, I have to sleep “

“Okay but pack your bags before you sleep” Sarah said before leaving Deon’s room.

She paid the twins a visit as well before she went to her room.

Mr Fredrick also went to Shines’ room to have a little chat with him before leaving to his room.

The night was long for everybody except Mr Fredrick who slept soundly.

Early morning......

Mr Fredrick and Sarah went to the kids room to pack their things with them and made the house-helps brought their things downstairs. They had to leave early to the airport to prevent traffic. They hurriedly had their breakfast.

After breakfast, Shine brought his things out. Everyone except Mr Fredrick was shocked so see him with his luggage.

“And where do you think you are going “ Sarah asked shine.

“Oh , I forgot to tell you that he is also going outside to study” Mr Fredrick answered.

“Why will you forget such a thing “ Sarah turned to mr Fredrick and questioned him.

“Are we going to talk at this hour when we are running late for the airport.

“Alright, when we come back you are going to explain everything to me “

The kids were a bit relieved hearing that from their dad.

POV:Shine's father returns home and decides to send Shine and his siblings abroad for education. Shine is excited about this opportunity. He helps with house chores and receives his passport and visa. However, his siblings are not happy about leaving their mother behind. Despite their unhappiness, Shine is filled with happiness and anticipation for his journey.
