The White Wolf

‘Something in the air is uneasy.’ Kyla said. ‘How can you tell?’ Cooper chuckled. Kyla bobbed her head. ‘Maybe it’s all the howling.’ Coven Cove was the only part of town a strigoi and a werewolf in love could be just that, lovers. The witches couldn’t fault them, they provided refuge that their own families couldn’t. ‘Don’t worry I’ll protect you.’ Cooper lifted Kyla'a chin and planted his lips on hers. ‘You can’t protect me from a Beasts bite.’ She said. ‘And I hope I never have to.’ Glass smashed and a woman screamed, Kyla and Cooper stood to face the chaos. ‘Susan!’ Kyla yelled. Kyla ran across the street, Cooper followed behind. Karl draped Susanna over his shoulder, the neighbors stood on their doorsteps swinging their fists at him. David hovered beside them. Susan folded her arms, but didn’t protest. ‘Let’s get out of here.’ Karl muttered. David was on hand to make sure no one tried to be a hero. ‘Put her down!’ Kyla threw herself on Karl, but David stepped in and grabbed her shoulders. ‘Let her go!’ Cooper demanded, red blazing eyes and sharp white fangs threatening to rip David apart. ‘Uh-huh, strigoi, huh? Traitor.’ David shot Cooper daggers. Kyla yanked her shoulders free and turned her murderous stare on Karl. ‘Put Susan down! What the hell do you guardians want?!’ ‘That’s none of your business. We now see where your allegations lie.’ Karl sneered. ‘Hey guys no need to fight.’ Susanna fluttered her legs. ‘Don’t talk to me about allegations when one of your own is responsible for the monsters that are killing our people!’ ‘Shut up! You don’t know what you’re talking about! Let’s go we don’t have time to argue with you. You never stop talking.’ Karl and David attempted to side step them but red and blue eyes challenged them. Karl growled, the neighbors gawked at them. ‘You’re not taking her.’ Kyla barked. ‘Hey! You haven’t even asked me if I didn’t want to go.’ Susanna cried. Kyla rolled her eyes. ‘Why would you want to go with them?’ ‘Because they need my help, duh.’ ‘They don’t deserve help! Whatever situation they’re in its their fault.’ ‘Oh Kyla. Witches don’t discriminate, if anything we should discriminate against strigoi who have killed more of our kind than anyone else, but no here your dear boyfriend is.’ ‘Susanna… how could you say that?’ Kyla gasped. Susanna fluttered her legs. Kyla spoke to her butt and Susanna to a giant oak tree. ‘Well it’s the truth. Anyways, let’s go Karl.’ *** ‘I swear you’re crazy! What were you thinking?’ Gianna wiggled into a white long sleeve top. ‘I needed to make sure he was okay.’ Blanca replied. ‘By getting yourself killed by a Beast.’ Gianna rolled her eyes. ‘He doesn’t care about me now.’ Blanca whispered. ‘What happened to the monster anyway? Gianna what we’re you doing there anyone?!’ Gianna shrugged. ‘I scratched it and it ran away.’ Blanca stood and paced the room. ‘Gianna, what happened?! Where’s Anneska?’ Gianna threw herself on the bed. ‘You might want to sit down for this. We were attacked… and only I got away.’ Blanca placed her hand on her chest and lowered herself on the bed slowly. ‘You think she’s dead? What about Kathleen?’ Gianna shook her head. ‘I don’t know what happened to her when we got home she wasn’t there. Listen, I’m not sure about Anneska maybe she got away too. I don’t want to assume things.’ Blanca hung her head low. ‘Oh, Gianna. Anneska could be hurt or worse… a scratch from the beasts is lethal.’ ‘So is mine! I scratched one of them at the house and I’m pretty sure it died.’ Gianna grinned. ‘Oh, how wonderful for you.’ The bedroom door sprung open and Matteo stepped in. Gianna's eyes darted between the two. ‘I need to speak to Blanca…alone.’ He started at Gianna. He still couldn’t believe his white wolf was so close all along. ‘Alrighty then…’ Gianna jumped off the bed. Matteo stopped her by the door. ‘Go to the living room you’ll find Cameron there. Don’t go anywhere else.’ She rolled her eyes and marched into the hallway. Matteo shut the door behind her. Blanca stood and walked to the wall. She felt trapped in the four walls of her bedroom. Hadn’t he said all he wanted? Why was he here? If anything he had to speak to Gianna. He finally found what he was looking for. ‘You might as well leave if you’re only here to yell at me. If you’re going to try to understand me you won’t Matteo. You don’t have siblings. I did what I had to do.’ Matteo ran a hand through his cut and bruised forehead. ‘I knew there was something off with you from the beginning. Stupid me.’ Blanca sighed. ‘What do you want Matteo?’ He took a step forward. ‘Did Anneska put you up to this? Where the hell is she?!’ Matteo growled. ‘I don’t know!’ Blanca yelled. ‘They were attacked and—‘ ‘She better be dead because she’ll be dead once she shows her face.’ ‘Anneska didn’t trust you, any of you. I had no choice but not to either.’ ‘I wouldn’t be surprised if she was the traitor!’ ‘Why would she bring Gianna here then?!’ ‘To make sure the Guardians had no chance!’ ‘You’re not going to tell me that you had complete faith in your guardians?’ ‘What do you want from me Blanca?!’ Blanca reached out and grabbed his cheeks, pulled his face and crashed her lips to his. She needed all of him. She wasn’t going to let what they had blow away in the wind. Matteo wrapped his arms around her waist and deepened their kiss, slipping his tongue into her. He raised his hand and tangled his fingers in her beautiful chestnut hair. ‘I want that too.’ He said. He brought her mouth back to his. He stepped back and sucked in a breathe. Matteo knew it was always going to be his people first. ‘I’m sorry Blanca.’ He couldn’t meet her eyes. She closed the gap between them and slipped her fingers between his. She planted a kiss on his cheek and sighed. The front door slammed shut up stairs. They started at each for a moment before Matteo darted through the door. ‘f**k! We’re screwed.’ Karl ran a hand through his hair. ‘The Beasts can’t set foot here we’re good.’ Susanna beamed. ‘We might be okay for now, but everyone out there aren’t.’ ‘What’s going on?’ Matteo asked. Blanca appeared behind him. ‘The Beasts have flooded the town, bro. There everywhere.’ David said. ‘Susanna, what are you doing here?’ Blanca asked. Susanna waved. ‘Hey Blanca, I heard your sister’s the white wolf. I always knew you guys where special. I’m here helping Debra.’ Karl took her arm and guided her to the living room. ‘Come on we don’t have time to waste.’ Everyone turned to the living room. Blanca grabbed Matteo's hand and pulled him back. ‘Wait Matteo, now that you have Gianna, what are you going to to do with her?’
