Muna’s POV
“It’s time for me to leave this accursed pack,” I thought to myself as I walked into the room, pulling the curtains open. Sunrays fell into the room, sending its lights into every corner.
The room stood quiet without the Alpha around. His presence had been weight to me, considering the feeling I harboured towards him.
“Lady Muna,” Castro’s voice called from outside the door. I stop my thoughts, dragging off the veil I had grown accustomed to wearing since the day the Alpha passed away.
“What is the matter?” I asked, making my face look riddled with worry and stress as I came before him, my tear stricken eyes reddened by the constant hours of me weeping for my dead love.
“You’re without your veil?”
“I needed to get it off, pour out my grief and not hindered by the space a lacy veil provided,”
“This talk will be better inside, before any of the elders find a means to berate you,” He advised, showing me inside with a sleight of hand. I nodded to his act of gentle-manliness, walking inwards.
He stood before me, straightening his clothes before boring his eyes towards me like I was a lost child, about to do something unexpected.
“I’m not a child,” I said after I noticed the way he had been looking at me. “There’s nothing dangerous I would do to myself,” I added, hoping to take off his mind off any thoughts towards me. However, my fears proved through as he made his thoughts know.
“They would make guards available to you if you feel they are needed for your help,”
“There is no need for that,” I brushed it off with a wave of my hand, covered with a black lace. He stayed still, feeling his eyes bore into my still, like he was watching, waiting to know when he would apply his authority as being the Alpha’s beta to my cause.
I decide to step away from his gaze. Plumping into the chair available, he followed like a loyal dog, his hands behind him until he was sure I was comfortable.
“What brings you here?” I asked as I pulled the lace glove from my hands, placing them neatly on the table next to me.
“The elders ask for you presence,”
“They don’t need me for anything at the moment until they lay the alpha to rest,”
“It’s more important,” he added, sitting on the chair opposite mine as I pointed towards it. It had become awkward to me, seeing him stand as we had a discussion.
“What else could be more important?” I asked.
“We will have guests.”
“I know my position as Luna of this clan.”
“They are not just any kind of guest,” he stated, his eyebrows furrowed while he closed his palms together as in a prayer.
“How important could they be?” I asked, crossing my legs before resting my elbow with my jaw placed on it.
“The elders with discuss that with you,” he answered, breathing deeply to iterate his finality towards the matter.
“Let’s go meet them.”
He nodded before standing up, straightening his clothes once more. He walked to where I was offering his hands to help me up. I offer him a smile before I took his. With the veil in hand, I placed it over my face. Carlos nodded at my actions.
“We should go to meet them,” I answered him as he walked us to the throne room. The guards before our door nodded as we passed them. Two broke from the four guards to follow me.
The elders were already seated as I stepped in, six on each side with gold plated sit. The Alpha’s seat sat in front of the room. Three seats were beside it, one was for the Luna. I walk towards the Lunas seating, sitting lightly while Carlos stood behind me.
“I heard you have called for a meeting,” I said with the loudest voice I could muster.
“That is true,” the first elder closest to me answered, his black cloth in contrast to the golden seat he sat on.
“And what purpose would that be?”
“That would be because of the position of Alpha,” another elder said, a female this time. She sat on my right-hand side. Her position, pointing she was the leader of the fourth sub-pack on the pack.
“I have no interest in ruling this pack.”
“We have no doubts about that.”
“Why bring me out here for a meeting if you already know I have no interest in the leadership?” I asked, straightening my back to stare at the woman in the face.
“We brought you here because his sons would be returning,” the first elder spoke up, his hands stroking his jaw line like he was having other thoughts in his head.
“If it’s their father’s throne they want, I would happily give it to them,” I said, rubbing my hands together.
“The affairs of the throne would be a discussion for a later time,” the first elder said, tapping his finger against the table before him.
“They will be in attendance for their father’s burial ceremony,” Carlos’ deep voice sounded behind me.
“They ought to,” I said sarcastically.
“Certain circumstances surround their separation from their father,” the first elder continued.
“I would gladly welcome them back, as it is my duty.”
“Your duty in which way you can see it fit. This meeting was called concerning their coming of age, as they will turn eighteen in the next season and due to find their mate within the timeframe.”
“What would you have me do?”
“You would be responsible for the arrangements of the ceremony needed for them to choose their mates.” The third elder on my left hand spoke, leader of the eighth sub-pack. He looked younger, with the straw hat on his head.
“Literally more work meant for them to keep constant watch on me,” I said to myself, eyeing the elder who had made that decision. The preparation given was going to put a hold on my escape plan.
“You would have all the help you need to make the ceremony a success,” the first elder pitted in, heaving a deep sigh as he finished.
“Sending invites to necessary noble men and women,” another elder spoke up, a plump man spoke up this time, sitting at the end of my left hand.
“I know what is necessary to start a ceremony.”
“Considering the inferior position the deceased Alpha had picked you from, I would not be having faith in your authority.”
“However, she is our Luna and you would accord her the respect deserving of her position,” Carlos stepped in, placing his hand on the table.
“My apologies Luna for his error,” the first elder spoke, placing his arms together like I’m in prayer.
“No offense taken,” I said, before rising from my seat.
The meeting ended with me having to deal with the deceased alpha’s children when they came to the castle. I was not far-fetched from achieving whatever goal they had set for the children, as I set my mind on escaping the pack as my plans had gotten to fruition.
The walk back to my room was uneventful, my guards and Carlos behind me.
“What do you think about this ceremony?” I asked Carlos as I got to my door, the guards swinging the door open for me. I had taken off the veil once more, but Carlos did not seem to mind at this moment.
“They are nice kids,” he said after a moment of silence, “And you would prepare the ceremony.”
The ceremony was not my problem. My problem had become the children who would be on their way here. Another copy of their father who had no soul, and I did not want to present if anything should go haywire.
“We will see about that,” I said with a little smile on my face. Walking into the room as Carlos responded with a nudge, taking a deep breath just as the door closed behind me, leaving me in the safety of being alone.
