The Substitute Luna

Chapter One

Megumi

“Louve! Where were you? Your father is looking for you!” Mother greeted me.

“I… I just went outside and got some air, Mother.” I answered half honestly.

Her facial expression changes. “Why? Is there something wrong? Do you need water? How are you feeling?”

“I’m fine, mother. Don't worry about me…”

She sighed in relief and smiled at me. “Come on, let's go… we're so worried about you. It's almost midnight.”

Speaking of, the Goddess Moon of Selene will come out any minute by now and here I am, acting all innocent even though I know what's gonna happen. Now that the Luna they expected is gone, who is going to be the Luna of the Alpha?

“Look! The Goddess Moon of Selene is coming!”

“But where's the Alpha?”

“Lady Eliana is not here either!”

All the commotion silenced when Alpha Ralph walked into the center of the hall, wearing a gloomy face, I still find him handsome. Knowing the truth, deep down I actually pity him… everyone's here is waiting for his mate and the one they are expecting is not the mate that Moon Goddess chose based on what I heard earlier. Whoever is the chosen Luna must be worthy.

“It's starting!” my sister, Fiona excitedly announced.

I’m curious too who is going to be my mate though I don't expect him to be almighty, I just want someone who is kind enough for me so I can get along with him.

“Hold your wolf, everyone!” Queen Raven suspending as the Moon Goddess appears behind the clouds, her lights shining through the hall in a different color. “There it is, meet your mates!”

One by one, few of the young werewolves men and women already found their mates and I still haven't mine so as the Alpha. Minutes after, most of the awakened werewolves are now with their mates… I’m already getting hopeless to meet mine.

“Lastly… our Alpha!”

The light focused on him.

His face still looked gloomy as his eyes were empty then suddenly glanced at me. In my horror, I felt a chill feeling in my chest as he slowly walked towards me but he stopped when the Moon Goddess shines brightly on me which means one thing— he's my mate.

I was still frozen on my spot while hearing all the whispers around me. Even my family was surprised about the sudden news, I’m the chosen mate? No way!

I turned to my sister whose eyes were still in shock but my attention was soon turned to the Alpha when he suddenly grabbed my arms, pushing me out to the moonlight and wraps around him.

“Do as I say, be my Luna until the Goddess Moon of Selene takes you back and chooses my Eliana…” he whispers in my ears.

I already understand what he meant by that.

With everyone gasping, the hall became silent and soon the Moon Goddess disappeared. Leaving me no choice to become the temporary or substitute Luna.

Later, after the banquet… My parents are now talking to Queen Raven and the Alpha about what happened, maybe they are trying to convince them that everything's not right. Maybe the Moon Goddess decision is wrong or maybe my parents is trying to beg them to let me go, right?

“Louve!” Fiona rushed towards me and gave me a hug. “I knew it! I already told you… you are the awaiting Luna of this kingdom. Oh my gosh! my vision was right!”

“Fiona… shh…” I calmly reminded her to lower her voice but it's too late for that.

“What vision?” a familiar voice echoed in the hallway, he was already standing beside me. “What do you mean that your vision was right, sister-in-law?”

I noticed how he empathize the word “sister-in-law”

“Forgive us, Alpha… My sister is just messing around,” I reasoned though deep inside my mind, I know that it will not stop him.

“I know my Luna… but I want to know what this vision is all about. Please enlighten me, sister Fiona…”

Fiona nodded and smiled. “Forgive me, Alpha but before we go here at the banquet… Last night I had a dream that my sister would be your mate like what happened earlier. She will be the right Luna who will make you more powerful though we knew that someone else owns your heart but you and Amara will learn to love each—”

“I’ve heard enough, sister Fiona,” his voice firmly disagreed. “I never thought that someone would still have a vision ability like you, your mate must be proud.”

“Oh yes, he is! Actually, that wasn't everything. You must know that—”

“Okay! That's all, Alpha…” I immediately cut her off and smiled at the Alpha before looking back to my sister. “Maybe we should go and check our parents if they're done talking to Queen Raven, right Fiona?”

“Oh yes! Right! Excuse us, Alpha…”

We both gave respect then started walking away however he suddenly called my name.

“Amara, right?”

We stopped and I slowly turned around, nodding.

“What's your full name again?” he asked.

I gulped before answering. “Amara Louve Megumi Fuentes, sir.”

“Sir?” he scoffed then slowly walked towards me. “Drop the sir, you're making me look old. You're my mate, right? Just call me Theron.”

“I couldn't possibly do that, Alpha.”

“Why?” He glances at my sister. “I hope you don't mind if I borrow my Luna, do you Sister Fiona?”

“Oh no! Please… I’ll go ahead, Amari.”

Without looking back, my sister rushes to walk away from the scene. Now, it's only me and the Alpha…

“Where are we? Right! Just call me Theron, okay?” his face flashed a smile. “Besides, you and I aren't strangers… you even eavesdropped on our conversation, right?”

I froze. He knew…

“I… I didn't mean to…”

“It's fine. I can't blame you, the garden is for everyone to use.” He explains. “If by chance, someone will still hear us so no apology needed.”

I sighed in relief. “Thank you, Alpha…”

I sighed in relief. “Thank you, Alpha…”

“Though it doesn't mean that I will let that pass, Megumi.”

He called me by my third name.

No one ever called me Megumi because it means love, grace and blessings. I stared at his eyes, wondering if he knew what my name meant as his eyes were serious, his face darkened. Soon, I find myself blushing and looking away to his eyes.

“I know my place, Theron.”

“You knew that I will never accept you as my Luna even though the Moon Goddess chooses you. I will only choose Eliana as my Luna so while she's gone, do your job as a substitute for her. You won't have your freedom until I told you so, Megumi.”
