I didn't hear anything back from him, and I felt my heart quicken at the thought.

Do not engage! Wait for backup! It's vampires. I send out a mass mindlink to Luke, Jackson, and the pack members within the nearing area.

The other two wolves I sent out responded sharply, and I awaited my alphas command. Sure, I could handle a few by myself. However, you never know if they've just eaten or how many of them are actually trained fighters. but I knew the moment I saw more of them exit out of the tree line, we were severely outnumbered. Even the reinforcements Luke is sending wouldn't be enough.

I'm sending 50 men your way. I will send another 50 men five hundred yards away from you guys. If they get sent into the fight, I will sound the alarm for our warriors.

Yes, alpha. We have our system. I agreed, letting him know I understood his orders.

Ultimately, as a gamma, this is my turf to deal with. Luke, Jackson, and I have an understanding that we will handle our business but keep everyone in the loop.

My wolf seemed to get agitated by his lack of response from earlier, and how he's just now acting like we missed him?

I had to move where I was for some reason. I couldn't hear from you, and I thought it was weird, so I moved closer to you guys. I can't be out of range for a mind link, right? He linked, sounding like he was confused.

I had never heard of that before out of range? We don't get out of range this close together within our own pack territory. That made no sense. He might be lying. My wolf said uneasily. The thought made me shudder. Did they catch him, and are there more of them hidden? Let's ask him. My wolf said mysteriously. I had an idea.

Only the three of us could have known about the other wolves coming out of the tree line when they did. He had to go around to the left behind rocks to get a good angle from the upper ground. He wouldn't have seen them on the ground while he was getting to his position.

If he says how many are down there right now, he would have been still close enough to hear the link. If he says the number we started off with he would be in the clear. However it still doesn't make sense. Maybe they are using a blocker in some sense, which could be really bad. Only wolfsbane and serious long distance can override a link.

How many of them did you see? I ask calmly.

The other two wolves got eerily quiet, and I could sense them listening in on the link.

Uhm eight? He responded.

He got caught. They sent him back. They know our reinforcements are coming. They want us to engage and attack. We pull out and take our man in for serious questioning. Sh*t. I really didn't want to do this.

Alpha change of plans we need a different angle to spread out the warriors on all sides seventy five guys in three directions. My guy got caught, and they sent him back to Spy. I sent it to Luke only.

Alright, good work. Come on back this way. We have reinforcements coming, so we have great eyes and ears from where we are. We need you closer to us. I link my 3rd guy.

He didn't pause this time. He just said he was on his way, and I didn't sense anything from him like he'd been caught. Even if he saw more bodies emerge and this is innocent, I would like to be prepared and not make this easy for the vampires at all. If they did capture him and question him, they know we are here. By now, they probably could smell us.

Do not link him. We are taking him in. I command the other two. No chances.

We will take him so when he comes to report back to me, stay behind him and you Sarah take him in. You're strong, but he'll just think I'm sending you guys back to discuss the reinforcement plan. If he runs, you link us. I commanded her and the other wolf. They bowed their heads.

I started to smell the 3rd guy coming back.

"What's your name?" I said, voice lowered.

"Chase Curtis gamma." He said.

I patted him on the back, biting my lip, and brought him closer.

"Good work. I need you and Sarah to head back to the east side and report what we saw. Go straight to the Alpha and Beta to deliver the news that we are ready." I ordered the last bit for them both. Mainly targeting Chase. I patted him on the back and sent him off.

He seemed slightly off. It was not like he was onto us, but he seemed fearful. Hopefully, he doesn't do anything stupid. It is one thing to get captured and be forced to spy but another entirely to keep it up on your home ground and your pack here to protectyou. That is another level of betrayal. Hopefully, this can get sorted quickly. He's too young to sit in our jails.

A few moments later, I get a link from Luke, and he is sending the reinforcements and sending out drones.

As we sit here, I notice more and more coming out. There are probably 20 of them. I think we will handle this fairly quickly. They'll be tough but my men are tougher.

I count about 20 of them. I sent it to Luke.

Ten four. This will be swift.

I started to notice the men coming slowly through the trees and began giving them instructions.

We had a drone flying over not to close but close enough to get a clear idea if there were more here. I ended up only keeping one set of 75 men. I figured the rest could be on standby. It didn't seem like we needed all of them.

We have Chase. He's been escorted to an interrogation room. Jackson linked.

With that, I developed a plan to surround them, and I would be the first to come out and negotiate with them. On my que, they would attack if needed.

A part of me wants to attack and expel some of my pent-up frustration and energy, but another part of me just wants to live in peace.

We never had these types of things this common. A rogue would attack here and there, but these vampires and rogues seemed to be testing our boundaries and borders. I have switched it up every two weeks for months now, and it still seems to not be enough.

I began to dwell on the figures in front of us secretly, hoping that ending them would end this ridiculous cycle of power. To be honest twenty vampires were a lot technically speaking. They never got tired whereas we did. We can only keep up for a short period of time before we have to rest, which makes them more lethal.

Gamma, this is Jax. We are set to engage.

I said back to Jax. He was a force to be reckoned with. A night shift warrior for a reason.

Just then, while I was focused on how I was going to chat with the intruders, a figure positioned herself leisurely leaning upon the tree in front of me, smiling seductively. A part of me almost vomited at the sight.

I walked over, smelling the air to make sure it was only her. Narin and I growled towards her and lifted our head towards her expectantly.

"I'll keep this simple. You have my brother, and I want him back. Give him to us, or we will kidnap your luna and hand deliver her to the king himself." She says, biting her lip and winking at me.

My men, some in wolf form, growl at the use of our Lunas name and the vindictive actions they'd take upon her.

Over our dead bodies. Narin says

"And who's your brother?" I ask innocently.

She then stands up straight and quickly brings her face to stoicism.

"James. We know you have him. Bring him to us, or we will take your precious Luna." She said, taunting.

I felt my body tense as she got closer and I began slowing my heart rate so she wouldn't sense me anticipation.

"You aren't in a position to negotiate on our pack grounds. We outnumber you. I suggest you leave. Twenty men simply won't even put a dent in us. Plus, if you knew how trading prisoners worked you'd call or send paperwork and would have our Luna. Then you'd have grounds. But you don't and didn't."

Just then, Luke walks up and snarls.

She bit her lip at my words and half smiled. She shifted her eyes as they trailed up my body to Luke.

"Ahh, you must be the almighty, bad, protective little wolf," She says, scrunching her nose, making fun of him.

"Bring James or I will take your Luna. Maybe then you'll listen?" She said turning around and then walked away.

Alpha! Beta! Gamma! There's a breech outside the packhouse!

All I heard next was our intruder Sirens.
