I heard a woman scream down the alley. I had just finished wrapping up an important alliance with a neighboring pack. As a werewolf princess, it's my job to help keep the peace within our neighboring packs to keep us strong and united. Luckily, Alpha Dane agreed to meet me at the restaurant to go over future plans for building a stronger union of other southern wolf packs. After a little bit of persuasion, he agreed to all the terms and signed the alliance. We need that alliance because the vampire's are moving in, and we aren't sure what exactly they want. They keep putting pressure on my pack and neighboring packs, almost testing our borders. It needs to end. I was writing in my folder some notes I needed to address when I got home to my husband when I noticed Nathan right outside waiting for me.
I walked over to my driver, smiling at him when I heard that scream and a vile smell. Vampires. They were in the city. I stood there speechless for a second. They haven't been able to get through the border. I thought I smelled it earlier, but I didn't see any within the establishment. The bartender had smelled slightly like it, and I just assumed she brushed against something at the hospital. She had told me about her shifts and some of her struggles getting to that position. For a human, she was very pretty and had a beautifully toned body. She was beautiful in the human realm. I noticed what seemed to be her regulars who took to her well. I'm glad she's strong and doing well for herself. She would've been a good wolf. She's dedicated, loyal, helpful, and a hard worker. My driver finally spoke, sensing my pause. "Do you smell that Luna Grace?" I nodded my head towards him.
Call my husband and tell him I need 10 men down here ASAP. I smell human blood. Vampire, I'm sure of it.
I nodded towards him as I mind linked him. He was a strong fighter. One of the best. However, all ranking wolves were strong and skilled fighters. Our beta was with my husband a few blocks over meeting with another alpha from another pack. So he sent our gamma Nathan with me. He tensed at the mention of a vampire.
Copy Luna Grace
Once you're done, Nathan, I'll need your help
I cut the mind link and ran towards the noise. What I saw was wretched. The bartender was in the arms of a vampire. This was our territory. They can not be here without us knowing. This poor girl is supposed to be in our protection. Nathan caught up and shifted, snarling.
" Drop her." I said, glaring at the vampire using my Royal command. Even vampires not related to any royalty have to respond to the command, whether it be vampire, faeries, wolf, lycan, etc. All royalty have a command that's hard to disobey orders from. I could tell he was fighting it. He smiled and dropped her. "Good luck. She was absolutely delicious! She might have some left for you to try? Haha, blood is on your hands! Get it?" Nathan snarled at the vampire's remarks and took off after the sucker.
Be careful. Take him down like in training. I'm gonna try and help her. I mind linked him
Got it!
"Alesia! Are you here?" I ask, rereading her name tag. I faintly hear her heartbeat, but it's going way too slow to recover.
Bite her. My wolf, Lainey said. Bite her now. We need her. Turn her. That's the only way to save her now. That blood sucker took too much. Let me save her. We need her! I let her take control. She kept repeating that we needed her. I felt my canines elongate and bit her, injecting my venom into her. I should have asked for her permission. But she definitely didn't want to die, and as a wolf, she can still move freely within the human world as a doctor if she wants. I will grant her that with my pack protection because I didn't give her a choice. I broke a sacred law, and I'm sure my brother will be reaching out to me over it. He's the King of Wolves now after our fathers death. But there's something about her. She needed to be saved. My wolf was adamant. I will stand for her.
Luna Grace?
Yes, Nathan? Did you get him?
Yes, he's unconscious. We should take him in for questioning.
My Alpha will want to know why a vampire was in our territory unannounced killing humans. I want to know. In every establishment in our territory, we have wolves working with humans. I will need to go back to that establishment and talk to the owner and see how that slipped through the cracks. I heard Lainey snarl at the thought of a pack member turning their back on their pack.
Good work, Nathan. We have..
I was cut off by an angry growl coming from my husband. He rushed in with his few select men. These were the top 10 best fighters in our pack. I pulled him in and kissed him to help calm him down. I felt him lower his nose and rest his forehead against mine. He was probably angry that I put myself in harm's way and made Nathan contact him instead of mind linking him myself. They grabbed the vampire and put him into our van equipped to keep him sedated till we got him back to our pack house for interrogations.
We are okay. I saved her. She was attacked and almost killed. I bit her. I didn't get to ask her for permission. Lainey said I had to save her. I don't know why.
I sensed him pause, so I reached up and cupped his chin.
But we have other more important businesses to attend to while Alesia goes through the process.
He exhales heavily and stares at me. I could tell he was having an internal battle with himself. We have had a lot of stress on our borders and keeping our pack safe. We think since I am the first princess born within a hundred years, they are testing us to see if I'm special. Most female royals born to a king have a special power after they've been mated, too. However, I don't. He finally responded.
Sweetheart, you know we can't do that. Your brother is gonna be angry with us. We have strict rules when it comes to a transition. We need to know why those bloodsuckers are here in the first place. Lainey, baby, we can't go around turning people in the middle of all this.
My wolf huffed at him in a whiney kinda way. Her mate was mad at her. She folded so quickly. I rolled my eyes at her mentally. Shut up. She whined. I grabbed my alpha by the hand and looked at him.
"You're right. We have more important things to deal with." I said, staring at the van and pointing at the restaurant she works at. There might be pack members working on the outside, allowing the vampires in. We promised to keep the humans within our territory safe from vampires. We must protect them. I look at Alesia and wonder why he chose her as a meal? Was it a warning?
My mate nodded his head in understanding. I thought I saw a smirk? Interrogations were some of his favorite things to do when his mate and pack were threatened. "Everyone clean this up and head back to the pack house," my alpha said. I have some inquiring I have to do. He said, staring at the vampire through the mind link. I smirk lightly, knowing he's going to enjoy it. Sounds sick, but I know he will get the information he needs. If it means keeping our pack safe, he will do absolutely anything. I ordered Nathan to pick up Alesia and get her situated in the car. I watched him as he started picking Alesia up off the ground when suddenly she spoke.
"What happened to me?" Alesia said.
We all turned around shocked. How is she awake? She lost way too much blood to be conscious. Her transition should take three days. But somehow, there seemed to be so much life in her eyes. How?
"Alesia?"
