CALHOUN'S POV. I woke up before my alarm. That alone should have told me something was wrong. I lay on my back, staring at the ceiling, the faint morning light slicing through the blinds. My chest felt tight, like something heavy was sitting there, unmoving. the unease was already there, settled deep in my bones. Jeremy. Steven’s voice replayed in my head, uninvited. ‘YOU WERE RIGHT CALHOUN.’ I exhaled slowly and pushed myself out of bed. Routine took over. Shower. Clothes. Dark suit. White shirt. No tie.
