Gio’s Perspective

I’ve had this job for the past five years. I’ve worked hard to get my boss to trust me, both Frank my immediate superior and Raphael the big boss. I’m well aware his wife and daughter are off limits. Frankie thinks she’s saving me but she’s not. She’s getting involved in something I have under control. I know things she doesn’t. Raphael already suspects his wife of infidelity and he’s hired a private investigator to get the proof. Her days are numbered. What Frankie did today was completely unnecessary. She’s too impulsive , she never waits for all the facts. She’s already left the kitchen and since it’s still to early to drive to school she had to have gone back to her bedroom. I know where it is. It’s just a few doors down from mine. I sigh and walk toward her bedroom. I’ve never been inside there’s no reason for me to. I’m 28 and she’s only just recently turned 18. She’s also my boss’s daughter. Not to mention we have nothing in common probably. I knock on her door and clasp my hands behind my back as I wait.

She opens the door and I know she knows something is about to happen. Her brown eyes look sad and her mouth is a grim line. I’m about to speak when the FBI demands everybody get down.

The thing about my job is this isn’t uncommon. The authorities are always trying to take my boss down. Right now though I don’t fear incarceration, right now my concern is for Frankie. She’s on the floor as instructed as am I. I can tell she’s uncomfortable. Her heart is pounding. She’s biting her lip. If I were a different man I might want to reach for her hand and calm her but I’m not that man. While I don’t want her to suffer I’m not the one who will or can comfort her. No. I’m good at my job because I’m cold. I can do what needs to be done without my conscious getting in the way. The truth is if you get involved with a man like my boss you’re not innocent. She is though. She doesn’t belong here in this house in this world.
