Alicia’s face froze as she saw the photo, and now the hate and anger on it looked permanent.
“That incident was expunged from her record,” the lawyer said. “How did you get this information?”
“Expunged doesn’t mean deleted,” Ellie said.
“That is precisely what it must mean,” the lawyer said and stood up. “Come, Alicia, we are leaving.”
She began rising, but Ellie shook her head.
“I’m afraid not,” she said. “Ms. West I am placing you under arrest for a series of unpaid parking tickets in the last six months. You have the right—”
“This is such bullshit,” Alicia yelled. “Can she do this?”
The question was directed at her lawyer who nodded, and said, “I’ll take care of it.”
