GEORGIE DRUMMED HER fingers idly on the glass counter while she waited for the assistant at Levi’s Loans to reappear from the rear of the shop. Bored, her eyes wandered around the shop, which bore a resemblance to a modern-day Aladdin’s cave, taking in the eclectic range of goods: jewellery, mobile phones, televisions, games consoles, games, DVDs, Blu-Rays, tablets, sports equipment, handbags, and all manner of other items filled the shelves, were hung from the ceiling, or were stacked on the floor. She couldn’t help wondering how much of what she could see was legally obtained, she was sure it wasn’t a hundred percent. She was equally sure that a thorough search, with a list of recently stolen items, would unearth many items of dubious origin. She didn’t imagine anything had been stolen
