Raven stared at the almost unconscious young girl lying at her shelter’s doorstep, different thoughts going through her mind.
Her hands clenched tightly around the blade, her teeth gritting with conflict.
At most times, Raven was firm in her decisions, especially when her survival was at stake. Usually, she won’t trust anyone around her, knowing they might turn their backs on her in a second.
However, Jackson’s words echoed in her mind—repeatedly.
“We should not be like them.”
The fire crackled quietly behind her.
For a moment, all Raven could hear was the gushing wind and the girl’s shallow breathing, slightly whimpering every time Aina cleaned her wound.
“Fuck.” Raven clicked her tongue, lowering her weapon slowly. “Damn it.”
