Alanna's shift went smoothly that day. She always packed her weekends with part-time jobs. By the time she returned to her dorm at Columbia University, it was quite late.
She noticed a missed call from an unknown number. When she called back, it was Emma. Emma called to let her know the marriage registration was set for tomorrow. Alanna and Quinn just needed to show up, and it was all going to be very low-key.
Alanna still felt it was a bit surreal. She awkwardly asked, "Uh, I have a pretty heavy workload with my classes and part-time jobs. Living on campus is more convenient for me."
Emma, sensing her hesitation, replied, "If you want to know if you would need to move in with Mr. Ryder after the registration, the answer is no. There's no such arrangement. Mr. Ryder said, as his needs."
