Interlude 2: Irina and Ivan – the Number Three Irina was descended from the sea gods. She could shift at any time, but only up to three days without shifting back. Her father was an unknown human. The number three had always been special. The number “one” referred to Unity. However, while some people thought that the number two meant partnership or a pair, it also meant disorder. Something would have tipped the scale. So, there was a need for a third entity to create harmony. For the merfolks, the same could be said. Everything came in threes. Irina was part of a group of three: herself, Romina, and Leda. They were all demi goddesses and good friends. They were mermaids who didn’t know who their fathers were.
