Three Years Later
Luna
‘Both of you stand close to each other please, this is supposed to be your wedding picture, show some enthusiasm!’ The photographer said loudly.
I moved awkwardly towards the man I’m supposed to be married to and he places a hand on my small waist. No matter how uncomfortable it was, my sister’s glare made sure that I sealed my lips shut to avoid voicing any resistance.
After some yearly-long minutes the photographer called it a day, I breathed out. To calm down my legs I sat on the only couch in the room, which was also used as a prop for the photo-shoot but my sister had decided not to leave me alone and pulled me by the arm to stand up again.
‘Don’t sit until he leaves.’ She whispered sternly.
‘Gina, I’m doing everything that you’ve asked me to. I deserve a break!’ I whined not bothered by the fact that my would-be husband could witness my childish behavior very well. But I was still thankful he was busy looking at our freshly clicked pictures and gave us sisters some time alone.
‘No, you haven’t done everything that I asked you to do.’
I knew what she was talking about. ‘You know I need time.’
‘How much time do you need? You’re getting married in two weeks. When the f**k are you planning to go on a date with him? He asks me every day to talk to you into going out with him.’
‘Exactly! In two weeks we’re going to be married. Don’t you think it’s late to go on a date now?’
‘Luna!’ She said in a tone which was clearly warning me to suppress my dissent.
‘Fine. I’ll go out with him tomorrow if that pleases you.’ I give up for there was no way she was going to shut up about it.
Sole
‘Ricci! Ricci!’ After no answers from my so called secretary I went to the study myself to fetch the files that were needed for today’s meeting.
I began my quest to search for the correct file from the pile that lay on the table, when the secretary decided to appear.
‘You called for me sir?’ A young guy with even younger soul, Ricci, was nothing but a nuisance ever since he’d joined my company. Then why is he here? Well, you’ll know…
‘Yes. Where are my files for the meeting today?’
He goes past me and picks a file from the shelf on the extreme left. ‘Here.’ He hands over the file to me. ‘I’ve put all the files which will be used in meetings scheduled for this month on this shelf. Those to be used for next month are on the next shelf and so on.’
‘You’ve arranged all of them?’ He nodded.
‘Also….’ He glanced at his watch and continued, ‘It’s time for your breakfast. I’ve asked a whole grain meal to be prepared according to your diet plan.’
We move towards the dining table as he continues to read my schedule for me. After breakfast he drove me to the office. The security checks have been upgraded by him, so it took a bit longer than it used to take but I don’t mind as security is our company’s top priority. Being the owner of a security software developer company, there’s no way my own security could be compromised.
So now you get why this guy was hired. He’s best at his job. He not only is my secretary but also my cook, driver, bodyguard and everything that I need him to be. Now why he’s a nuisance? Well you’ll know that also soon.
‘Anything special on today’s news?’ I ask as I settle in my office.
Ricci does a random search on the tab and then spurts whatever meets the eye. ‘Stocks of our company have jumped up but not by the margins that we expected them to. There is a new diamond brand coming up. A man jumps into the water, but police suspect it to be a murder. A dog runs away after owner removes its leash. Two people stumble and fall onto each other after stepping on the same banana peel. Study indicates watermelons will be smaller in size in future due to climatic conditions……’
‘Ricci…’ I tried to intervene.
‘Another study shows that women are more aggressive when it comes to lingerie shopping than men.’
‘Ricci…’
‘People are ready for Christmas, six months before the holiday to arrive.’
‘Ricci…’
‘New Show’s CEO…….’ When speaks again, I sigh. This is exactly why I call him a nuisance. He doesn’t realize when he’s to stop. There’s no filter in this guy and he will make sure to irritate the s**t out of you until either you shake him by the shoulders or throw something at him. I picked up a folder to do the latter when the name in his headline caught my attention.
‘What did you say?’ I asked.
‘The Spencer Co. is to file for bankruptcy….’
‘No. No, before this.’ He stopped for a moment and then stared into the blank space before getting back to the gadget in his hand.
‘New Show’s CEO Dave Furrow set to be married to his fiancé, the wood craft store Eclissi Solare’s owner Luna Agosti.’ When I heard the name again, I snatched the tab from his hand and zoomed in on the name, clicked on the article and when happy, all-smiles, too-much in love couple’s photo appeared on the screen, I felt a pang of jealousy in my heart.
How could she? I thought. Even if I, Sole Accardi, was the one to cut her off from my life, how dare she move on and look so happy with another man? How dare she?
