Scene Three – Living Room – Interior, Day
Margaret, Robert, and Charles sat together in the living room, the air thick with anxiety after the previous incident. Margaret, her eyes glowing with remorse, spoke in a soft yet tense voice:
"We shouldn’t have left Harper there…"
Robert turned toward her, trying to steady his voice and reassure her:
"Harper’s condition won’t get any worse than this."
But Margaret couldn’t calm herself. She placed her hand over her chest, as if trying to soothe her racing heart, and said:
"I feel guilty… about that push Harper gave him. Dr. Mason says she isn’t responsible for what she did to Charles."
She looked at Charles tenderly, pulled him close, and hugged him tightly, planting a kiss on his forehead:
"Do you love Harper, Charles?"
The child smiled innocently and answered clearly:
"I love Harper."
Robert sat beside them, gently patting Charles’s shoulder, trying to ease the tension:
"Don’t be upset with Harper, my dear… what she did to you yesterday was beyond her control. She’s sick, so let’s pray for her recovery."
Charles lifted his head with curiosity, his eyes searching for reassurance:
"Where is Harper, Dad?"
Robert answered in a gentle tone, trying to make the child feel safe:
"She’ll come tomorrow… don’t worry."
The three of them sat in silence, yet the tension lingered. The quiet wrapped around their mixed emotions of love, worry, and guilt, signaling that what had happened was not just an accident, but the beginning of a larger, looming struggle.
Scene Four
The atmosphere in Dr. Mason’s clinic was deceptively calm, yet danger lingered in the air. Dr. Mason sat at his desk, the signs of sleep etched across his face, his eyes struggling to stay open. Before him, Harper lay asleep on the medical bed, her small body radiating tension even in slumber. He fought against the pull of drowsiness, but the battle was lost, and sleep finally claimed him.
At Robert’s house, silence reigned. Robert and Margaret slept in their room, while Charles slumbered in his bed, his innocent face unaware of the unfolding danger.
Suddenly, Harper awoke. She rose quietly from the medical bed, her steps light but sharp, moving toward Dr. Mason. In a moment of deadly stillness, she grabbed his neck and pressed forcefully, attempting to strangle him.
Dr. Mason’s eyes flew open in shock. He struggled, trying to pull away. With great effort, he grabbed Harper’s hands and removed them from his neck, then secured both hands at her sides, striving to calm her and bring her back to awareness.
Harper resisted fiercely, writhing and attempting to attack again, but Dr. Mason held her firmly on the bed. He placed her hand on her chest, took a deep breath, and concentrated on soothing her.
After a tense few minutes, Harper finally surrendered. Her eyes opened slowly, calm and yielding. Dr. Mason exhaled, exhaustion etched on his face, his gaze scanning every slight movement, fully aware that this battle was far from over.
