Chapter 12: Lilly

It’s Monday morning and as expected, Olivia woke up with a throbbing headache. She rolled to the right side of the bed where the bedside table is and sat up slowly and with one hand on her head, she searched for a pain reliever that she knew was there on the table as she always kept some for situations like this.  “Yeah, there you are, finally found you.” She took the medicine after scattering things on the table while looking for it. She praised herself for being smart but on a second thought, “why keep drinking since I can’t handle the after effect? Well, whatever!” A buzz from her phone diverted her attention and so, she grabbed the phone from the table immediately hoping to see any missed calls or text messages from Peter but unfortunately, there was none. She was instantly struck by another set of sadness and tried to call Peter but got no response from him. She decided to give up. She gently got up from her bed and walked across the room to her bathroom to do her morning routine. Well, her resting days was over and she needs to get back to work.  She raised her right hand to push the bathroom door open and that was when her eyes met a glittering stone on her finger and she became stunned for a moment. With eyes wide in shock, Olivia brought her hand closer to look at the mystery on her finger closely while some questions kept bubbling on her mind. “These days, things were becoming more out of the ordinary, if not, why would a ring suddenly appear on my finger when I didn’t even pay any accessory shop a visit? Or did I?” Olivia thought confusedly. But then thinking about it seriously, although she finds it difficult to remember anything that happened afterward, the only place she visited the previous day was Eddie’s bar and that was in the evening when she couldn’t endure the pain of not hearing from Peter.  “Unless…hahaha” Olivia couldn’t help but laugh as she wondered if she was proposed to mistakenly probably because the unknown partner was drunk too. Then the blurry handsome face came to her mind again making her to giggle happily, she has always felt that there’s a sort of connection between them and so he could only express himself to her when he got drunk? But, why put the ring on my right ring finger, instead of the left hand? Olivia thought feeling a little disappointed. “Hmph…it will remain this way until he summons the courage to stand as a man” Olivia snorted feeling amused even more. And with that decided, she took her bath quickly and walked out of the bathroom to her closet with most of her thoughts centered on the diamond ring on her finger. Humming to unbelievable by Craig David, Olivia felt more elated that morning twisting her waist in front of the mirror without hearing the actual beat as she wore her black short skirt with sky blue sleeve that reflected her blue orbs. She tied her brown locks into a ponytail, grabbed her bag and left her apartment with a positive hope of meeting ‘Mr. Proposer’ someday. Olivia got to her desk and dropped her bag on it before strolling over to the door that led to her Boss's office wondering if he was there yet since he has the habit of coming to work earlier some days. It’s been days since she saw his arrogant face and as for his voice, it was kind of soft when he called her on the phone compared to some other days when he called her to ask of some documents. And this was the first time he actually allowed her to have a complete three days off without asking her to come back to work before her resumption day. She pushed the door slowly and peeked inside before opening it wider and sauntered in. There was no sign of Nelson anywhere in the office which made her to heave a sigh of relief. She closed the door and walked back to her desk to do her work as their was a lot of work waiting for her. One hour later, Nelson walked in with his hands in his pocket but he wasn’t alone. A girl in army green color jumpsuit that Olivia recognized as Lillian was right behind him. Of course she’s the one, a small and petite body, originally possessed a pitch black hair just like her brother but choose to change hers’ to purple. Reasons best known to her, but her orbs still remains the same__forest green which she covers with a gray contact lens sometimes, as if she is trying to depict someone else but blood never lies, right?  ‘Congrats for not wearing any today’ Olivia thought. “Good morning, Sir” Olivia greeted. “Hi, Olivia” the young miss chirped as she walked up to stand beside her brother. “How are you doing today?” “I’m fine, Lilly, Thanks” Olivia replied with a smile. Lillian is one hell of an energetic lady that doesn’t like it when Olivia or anyone else called her Lillian as she always likened herself to a pure and cute flower and Lilly just describes it right while Lillian sounds awful to her. “Good morning, Olivia” Nelson replied bringing the two ladies attention back to him. “How was your days off?” “Huh?’ Olivia voiced out her surprise. “Does he want me to answer that?” Lilly on the other hand, stared at her brother in amazement as she also voiced out her thoughts, ‘Does he really want an answer to that?’ She wondered. “I guess it was splendid” Nelson commented ignoring the two with their crazy thoughts as he stomped off to his office. Lilly was too curious to follow him and so she ran to Olivia instead to get more answers. It seems like things have changed for the past one year she travelled to stay with her grandma and to start up her fashion firm. “Hmm… things have really changed between a certain mean Boss and a good secretary over some months, so spill it” Lilly teased with her arms folded over her chest while staring at Olivia suspiciously. Olivia felt totally lost by the question thrown at her and so she asked, “what do you mean?” As far as she was concerned, things were still the way it has always been. No difference at all. “So you don’t really know anything, huh?” Lilly quirked her brows at her but Olivia still appeared clueless and oblivious. “Well, none that I can think of, and if you don’t mind, please excuse me. I need to get back to work.” Olivia shrugged dismissively thinking that Lilly must have come back with some weird thoughts this time around. Although she liked her returning because her bugging attitude keeps her company and up lifts her mind off of some things but this time around, it felt different and creepy.   “Alright” Lilly huffed as she watched Olivia walk towards the door probably to get coffee for her Boss. “So she doesn’t know anything, which means my brother should know” Lilly thought as she felt that something was fishy between the two. As Olivia’s figure disappeared from her presence, she turned to her brother’s office with her inquisitive mode switched on, clearly determined to get to the roots of every hidden secretes.
