Bangungot roughly translates to 'nightmares'. It wasn't a terrible thing, since nightmares are just bad dreams. But Bangungot shares the same namesake of a vengeful demon that uses dreams as a medium. According to lore, Bangungot would induce horrifying nightmares that would then be followed by an unexpected death.
