Layne rested his head on the back of the couch and glared at the ceiling. The faint sound of running water had stopped. Heaven had just finished showering, though he doubted she’d join him right away. Adalyn’s restlessness increased. It wasn’t the fact that she was still hungry. She wanted to be with her mother. A dull ache formed at his temples. He wanted to crawl in his bed and forget the last twelve hours. At least most of it.
