Chapter 6 Do It on Purpose

792 Words
Theodore raised an eyebrow, gripping Stephanie's chin and admiring her defiant expression. He rather liked that stubborn look in her eyes. "Whether I'm sent to your bed or locked in a warehouse, it's never by my choice!" The defiance in Stephanie's eyes was still burning brightly. Thinking of her sister and her status as an illegitimate child of a mafia family, Theodore understood. 'An illegitimate daughter in such a family either overthrows the stepmother and her children or endures endless bullying.' "Get some rest." Theodore got out of bed, casually grabbed a bathrobe to cover his perfect body, and left the room. He wasn't one to force anyone. 'It is better to wait until the kitten comes around willingly.' "You..." Stephanie watched Theodore leave, biting her lip, hesitating to speak. 'What did that mean? Is he letting me go today?' But Theodore said nothing anymore and simply left the room. This clearly sent the wrong signal to Jennifer. When she learned from the maid that Theodore had returned to his room last night, a great joy surged in her heart. She knew Theodore's tendencies well. 'If that woman had pleased him, he wouldn't have left so quickly. Now that she has lost Theodore's protection, I won't let go of her! She dared to mock me and made me look foolish in front of Theodore.' A cruel glint flashed in Jennifer's eyes the next morning as she watched Stephanie eating breakfast alone. 'Today, I am going to let her know the consequences of crossing me.' "Pass me the jam in front of you." Jennifer pulled out a chair and sat down across from Stephanie with a haughty demeanor, ordering her as if she were a maid. Stephanie glanced at her. She knew Jennifer was up to no good, but picking a fight over something so trivial seemed pointless. So, Stephanie just handed over the jam to Jennifer. "Bring it to me yourself." Jennifer was clearly not going to let Stephanie off easily. She sat in her chair, fiddling with a dinner knife, making no move to take the jam herself. Stephanie pressed her lips, stood up with the jam, and brought it over as Jennifer had demanded. But the moment Stephanie set the jam on the table, Jennifer's knife fell, its tip grazing close to Stephanie's palm before embedding itself into the table with a loud thunk. "Oops, my hand slipped." Jennifer's eyes gleamed with disappointment as the knife failed to pierce Stephanie's hand as she had hoped. She apologized insincerely and stood up, leaning in close to Stephanie. Stephanie's eyes widened at the sight of the sharp knife that had just bored a hole in the table. She could still feel the blade's path across her skin. This was no dull breakfast knife but a steak knife meant for cutting meat! This was no accident. Jennifer had done it on purpose. She was out to get her, and this was much crueler than yesterday's petty tricks! 'I must get away from this crazy woman now!' "You think you can run away?" Just as Stephanie was thinking of leaving, Jennifer grabbed her firmly and pressed her down onto the chair. Then, she quickly yanked the knife from the table, pressing the blade against Stephanie's face. "Won't you accept my apology? What if I did it on purpose?" Jennifer's eyes twinkled with malice. "You're just a toy. No, not even that. If the master doesn't like you, you're not even a worthy toy. Even if I kill you now, who would care? Or maybe disfiguring you isn't a bad idea either. I'd love to see what you have left without that face." Feeling the knife's tip tracing her skin, Stephanie was enveloped once again by the immense fear that had dominated her the day before. 'This woman is insane! A complete and utter lunatic!' Watching the malice and madness flicker in Jennifer's eyes, Stephanie believed that she was truly capable of slashing her, whether across the neck or face. 'Run! I need to run now! I have to find Theodore. He is the only one who could stop this crazy woman!' With those thoughts, Stephanie suddenly leaned back, falling over along with the chair to the floor. Then, while Jennifer was still stunned, she quickly pushed the chair at Jennifer, trying to knock her down or at least slow her down. Without looking back, Stephanie quickly got up and sprinted towards the door. However... "Ah!" Stephanie screamed as Jennifer grabbed her skirt. Losing her balance, she fell to the floor once again. Jennifer clearly possessed superior combat skills, for she quickly subdued Stephanie and sat on top of her. She raised the knife with a sinister smile and brutally tried to stab Stephanie's eyes.
