I lowered my head quickly, hiding my face out of sight while mustering every force in the world that I could count on to stop a sniffle from escaping me.
While I did that, Killian was just as silent and silence stretched between us.
It didn't take long for me to feel his gaze on me and I knew that he was watching me.
I avoided raising my head to glance at him to the best of my ability but ended up instinctively doing so when I heard him move.
It was a quick lift of my head upwards but I couldn't lower it fast enough and I knew without a doubt that that brief moment of a slip up had enabled him to see my tears.
