Seriously, I can’t stress this enough—if you have your story saved only to your hard drive and nowhere else, and you’ve never printed out a hard copy, then you’re playing with fire. Computers fail all the time. Hard drives crash, motherboards fry, power supplies short-circuit. The last thing you want is to lose all your hard work simply because you didn’t take the time to backup your story. Trust me, I’ve been there before. A hard drive crash is hard enough to weather, but finding out you’ve lost hours of hard work on your current story in progress is debilitating. The thought of trying to rewrite the story is exhausting, and you feel defeated before you even try to begin, because you think you’ll never be able to write exactly what it is you lost.
