If you receive an acceptance letter, the first thing you should do is celebrate. Yay! The next thing you should do is respond. You don’t have to accept the publication offer immediately, but you should reply as soon as possible after you receive the acceptance and let the publisher know you are considering it. This way they know you received their e-mail, because if they don’t hear from you in a few days, they will probably assume it went into your spam folder. Waiting more than a week to reply to an acceptance letter runs you the risk of having the offer rescinded. Taking too long to reply makes the publisher wonder if you’re going to be as unresponsive in future communications.
