No matter how clean or error-free your manuscript is, the publisher will assign an editor to read through it one more time before it’s published. An editor will provide a fresh perspective and read your story with a new set of eyes, finding things you may not have simply because you’ve read and re-read (and re-re-read) it so many times. The main thing to keep in mind during the editing process is that it’s still your story. Editors may suggest changes—better phrasing of awkward sentences, places where you need more description (or less), ways to help the dialogue between your characters flow more naturally.
