Chapter 11: The Private Confession

735 Words
The penthouse was quiet, the only sound the faint hum of the city far below. Bella sat at the edge of the velvet sofa, sketchpad in hand, but she wasn’t thinking about designs. Her mind kept drifting to Ethan—his voice, his touch, the way his dark eyes seemed to see straight into her soul. Ethan entered without knocking, the door clicking shut behind him. The air shifted instantly, charged with the same intensity that had been building between them for weeks. “You’re still here?” he asked, voice low, leaning casually against the doorway. “I… had some sketches to finalize,” Bella said quickly, trying to focus on her pad, though her fingers trembled slightly. Ethan stepped closer, closing the distance between them. “Bella, enough with work. Come here.” His tone wasn’t commanding—it was tender, insistent, and impossible to resist. She set the sketchpad aside, rising slowly. As she approached, her chest tightened, a mixture of anticipation and nervousness coiling in her stomach. Ethan’s gaze never left her, dark and intense, filled with emotion she had never seen before. “Bella,” he whispered, reaching out to brush a loose strand of hair from her face. His thumb lingered on her cheek, warm and soothing. “I can’t keep pretending anymore… not with you. Not with this.” Her breath caught. “Ethan…” she murmured, voice trembling. “I… I feel the same, but—” He silenced her with a finger against her lips. “Shh. Don’t speak. Just… feel. That’s all that matters right now.” Before she could react, he drew her closer, their bodies brushing in a careful but deliberate embrace. Bella’s heart raced. Her mind screamed to resist—contract, appearances, Dante—but her body, her heart, refused to listen. Ethan’s lips hovered near hers, and she could feel the heat of his breath, the pull of his presence. “Bella, I want you to know something,” he murmured. “I’ve tried to fight it. Tried to keep it professional, tried to keep my distance… but I can’t. You’ve changed everything. And I… I need you. Only you.” Tears prickled at the corners of her eyes. “Ethan… I’m scared,” she admitted softly. “Scared of falling… scared of letting myself care too much.” He cupped her face with both hands, gaze unwavering. “Then fall with me. Let me catch you. I’ll protect you, always. You’re mine, Bella… not just for the contract, not just for appearances… for real.” Her chest tightened, and she closed her eyes, letting the truth of his words sink in. In that moment, all doubts, fears, and uncertainties melted away. She leaned into him, allowing herself to feel, to trust, to love. The first kiss was soft, tentative, yet filled with months of suppressed longing. Bella’s hands went to his chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart, the warmth that made her knees weak. Ethan deepened the kiss gently, slow and possessive, as if claiming every part of her that had resisted him for so long. When they finally pulled apart, both were breathless. Ethan rested his forehead against hers, voice low and intimate. “Bella… you don’t know how long I’ve wanted this. How long I’ve wanted you.” She smiled softly, a mixture of relief and happiness flooding her. “I’ve wanted you too… more than I could admit.” For a moment, the world outside ceased to exist. The city lights, the gala, Dante’s looming presence—all of it faded into insignificance. There was only them, their hearts beating in unison, the beginning of a love that had been waiting to ignite. But even in the safety of the penthouse, Bella knew Dante would not stay away. The love triangle, jealousy, and danger were far from over. Yet, for the first time, she felt a sense of certainty. With Ethan by her side, she was ready to face whatever challenges came next. As they embraced, the night stretching around them, Bella realized something undeniable: this wasn’t just a contract anymore. This was real, and their love would change everything—if they could survive the obstacles awaiting them. And somewhere, unseen, Dante’s eyes watched from the shadows, already plotting the next move that would threaten the fragile happiness now blooming between Bella and Ethan.
