ELISE It feels like I went through the tunnel for longer than a day. I had no torch, our hurried escape did not give us time to prepare one and so I had to fumble my way through the darkness, hoping to the Saints that I did not get lost deep down in that black hole. As I finally crawl my way out of the tunnel and collapse onto the ground, my body shuddering as I gulp in the fresh air, I know that I will never go anywhere underground ever again. The stench was horrible, so acrid it made my eyes water. When I finally descended down the stairs, my first step onto flat solid ground sounded wet and sloppy and I nearly crawled out of skin with disgust.
