The harsh smell of chemicals and the whir of the machine holding embalming fluid are strangely comforting to me, especially when combined with Matia"s snores from the plush bed Nik found for her. If I close my eyes, I can almost imagine we"re back at home, though the fallacy is broken the moment the chatter of the mortuary sinks back in. There are a lot more people here and I don"t really know any of them. Except for the five Cairo Anubis Blessed, though I"ve only seen Hapiu around the mortuary, the others must be doing whatever other duties are assigned to them.
