Chapter 005 Esther's POV I watched as blood rushed out of my stomach. I felt dizzy all of a sudden. The next thing I heard was, “Help, she is bleeding!” an old man entered and placed his hands on my stomach. Before I could alter a word. I heard the sound of a commotion outside the ward and a group of nurses frantically rushed in. I couldn't comprehend what was going on. For a moment, I felt the breeze. My heart turns to ice. I could feel the nurses stitching my stomach. I snapped out of my gaze when one of the nurses said to her colleague; “She is safe, it is not a deep cut.” That is the last thing I registered before I closed my eyes, my heart in my mouth. I could hear their footsteps going outside the ward. Why did they save me? Why did they stop me from going to my son? My soul would have been with my son by now. “f**k!” I groaned, frantic with anger. An old man entered the ward as he came to sit beside me. I recognized him. He was the one that saved me. I felt like strangling him to death. My hand balled into a fist as I gritted my teeth. “Are you OK?” he asked as he placed his hands on my lap, trying to make me feel better. I swallowed the lump in my throat as all the tears I was struggling to hold back streamed down my cheeks in torrents. “I know, you might be facing a lot right now. But to kill yourself is not a good idea. Your future will be far better than your past, my child,” he consoled. Hearing his words, a wave of relief washed over me. I felt like something heavy was removed from my chest. “ Who are you?” I asked him as tears streamed down my face. “I'm just a cleaner here. I was directed to come and clean up the broken glass, then I found you bleeding,” he explained. I let out a heavy sigh. What he said was true. The future is far better than the past. But as long as I'm alive, maya and Micheal won't get away with this. “I'm leaving now. Please don't hurt yourself again,” I ignored him. I swallowed the painful lump in my throat. A nurse suddenly entered the ward and gave me my discharge papers. “You are free to go, ma'am,” she said. “Please take good care of yourself and take your medication on time,” she added. I gave her a nod of understanding as I got up from the bed feeling pains all over my body. It suddenly hits me that I don't have any money with me and I had nowhere to go. Driven with anger and frustration, I walked out of the hospital and hailed a cab which took me to my parents' house. *** I stood in front of the luxurious mansion, my heart beating faster. The last time I set my eyes on this house was the day before our wedding. ‘You either choose us or that f*****g boy!’ My father's voice to me the day I left the house. A wave of embarrassment washed over me. I could have been standing there with my pregnancy news, about to break the exciting news to my mother that she would soon be a grandmother. My parents were right after all, they saw what I couldn't see at all. They saw what I couldn't see about Michael, but I was blindly in love. I remember when I used to lay on my mother's lap. I remember when my dad used to kiss me on the forehead any time I was going to school. It all changed the day I introduced Michael to them. I fell in love with him and rebelled against my mom and dad, just so I could marry him. Michael deceived me by making me feel safe in his company. My heart tightened in pain and anger as tears streamed down my face like a river. I regret knowing Maya and Micheal in my life. I wiped off my tears, sniffed and took a deep breath, gathering the courage to knock on the door. “Who is there?” my mother's voice, the voice I didn't hear for years, asked. I was rendered speechless as tears blurred my sight. She opened the door as her gaze fixed on mine. My mom looked the same as the last day I set my eyes on her. In fact, she looked younger and more beautiful. “Mom!” I shouted as I ran and hugged her tight. My mother froze there, she didn't even return the hug. She was confused and shocked. I knew she had millions of questions to ask. I was bothered by her lack of response. All I needed was someone by my side. Someone who I could cry on his shoulders. Someone I could express my feelings to. “Sweetheart, what is happening to you lately?” she asked as she gathered me around her arms. “Mom, my life is f****d up,” I managed to say as the words tasted bitter in my mouth. She gasped and furrowed her brows. “Let's OK, come in,” she gestured to me inside. I wandered around the living room and nothing changed. It feels like I just left the house yesterday. “Tell me, what is wrong with you, Esther? I'm your mother, explain everything to me,” she said as she sat next to me, her eyes shining with tears. I don't think I could narrate everything to her. My heart was breaking. All I could do was sob. My mother couldn't help but join me. She wrapped me around her arms, trying to comfort me, whispering comforting words to me. She was trying to be strong for me like she always does. “You have to tell me what happened. I'm willing to fight and make each one of them regret it,” my mother said with an assuring voice.
