The more I wrote Elise’s story, the less I understood where she ended and I began. Her voice wasn’t just haunting Amira’s journals — it was echoing through my dreams, reshaping my memories.
In the narrative, Elise kept a journal of her own — a mirror to Amira’s, but filled with cryptic dreams and symbols. One entry stood out:
"Ghostwriters don’t just borrow voices. Sometimes they inherit the silence too."
Was that what was happening to me?
I decided to confront Amira. This time, I insisted on a video call. When the screen flickered to life, there she was — not a gray circle, not a voice. A face. Pale. Beautiful. Haunted.
“I didn’t tell you everything,” she said before I could ask.
“Elise?” I whispered.
“She was real once. My sister. She died in that room. The one I told you I never entered again.”
A chill ran through me.
“She wrote too,” Amira said. “She wrote until the night she… disappeared. And then her words never stopped. They just started coming through other people.”
I knew what she meant. That I was and will always be one of them now.
