Rain poured heavily that evening. Elara didn’t remember deciding to go. But somehow— She found herself at his door. Adrian opened it, surprise flickering briefly before it vanished. “Elara.” “I need to understand something,” she said. He stepped aside. “Come in.” She walked in, taking in the minimalistic, cold design. Very him. “Why me?” she asked. “Why my company?” Adrian leaned against the counter, watching her. “You built something powerful,” he said. “That’s not an answer.” “It is.” “No,” she snapped. “It’s an excuse.” Silence stretched. Then— “I saw myself in you,” he said quietly. That stopped her. “You’re lying.” “I don’t lie.” Her voice softened slightly. “Then explain.” Adrian hesitated. A rare thing. Then— “I built everything from nothing too,” he said. “And I learned early—people either use you or leave you.” Her chest tightened. “…same,” she admitted before she could stop herself. The words hung in the air. Vulnerable. Real. Dangerous. Their eyes met. No games this time. No control. Just two people… standing in the same truth. Adrian stepped closer. “Elara—” “Don’t,” she whispered. But she didn’t move away. That was the problem.
