Chapter 5

1312 Words
In the morning, Vale woke up feeling comfortable. Her body didn't hurt at all; it felt as though she had been sleeping on a pile of soft cotton. Her sleep had been truly sound. Vale smiled again. Last night, she had thought long and hard. Just like what her mother-in-law had said, she shouldn't let herself be easily oppressed despite her shortcomings. Vale had to carry herself like the mistress of the house and a proper wife. Even though he was cruel and heartless, Dante wouldn't dare hurt a woman loved by Celine. Vale had to be herself—the originally cheerful and brave girl she was before her eyes suffered from blindness. "Okay, Val, let's fight together toward happiness. Even though I'm in the devil's den, I still have to keep my spirits up," she murmured softly. To her, even if she were to die at Dante's hands, it wouldn't matter; no one would be sad for her. Vale tried to move her body, then she managed to sit up. "This bed will be mine. No way am I going to sleep on the floor or the sofa," Vale muttered again. But not long after, the sound of a door opening and closing was heard. From the scent Vale picked up, it was her husband. Vale chose to remain quiet and had no desire to greet Dante. Meanwhile, Dante stood there stunned. How dare that blind woman sleep in his bed. "Val, didn't you..." "I heard you are the richest man, Dante? What if everyone finds out your wife sleeps on the floor? Won't your good name be tarnished and you'll be labeled a stingy husband?" Vale interrupted boldly, even though her heart felt like it was about to burst out of her chest. Dante was endlessly surprised by Vale's audacity. "You dare answer me back, Val?" The beautiful woman nodded quickly. "You asked, so I answered. Come on, it's still early, don't look for an argument. Go take a shower and go to work, collect a lot of money, because I am a lover of money." In all of Dante's life, no one had ever dared to oppose or talk back to him, let alone order him around. Yet Vale lightly dared to tell him to go to work. Why was this woman like a dangerous fox to him? At first she seemed so weak, but now she was so bold. Dante stepped forward, approaching Vale who was already standing by the side of the bed. The beautiful woman felt apprehensive; she still remembered Dante's threat last night—what if he really threw her out? "Dante, why are you standing in front of me?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. "You've become bolder after getting my Mommy's support. Don't hope for anything, I consider you no more than a servant," he hissed. "Oh, I'm a special servant, aren't I? Since I get to sleep in your room. Or do all servants like to sleep in your room?" Goodness, why was Vale's mouth being so daring? Don't ask about the state of her heart, which felt as though it had refused to beat again. Dante stared at his wife with an unreadable gaze, then a faint smile crossed his lips and suddenly, Vale’s body was airborne once again. "Oh my god, Dante, don't throw me out! I just got married and haven't even experienced what a wedding night is like!!" Vale shrieked in terror. Dante seemed deaf to her words; he really did throw his wife's body, but not outside—instead, right onto the mattress. "Aside from being blind, turns out you're also perverted, Val." Vale was startled; she didn't feel any pain but instead felt comfortable again on top of the incredibly plush mattress. "Since I was little, Dante," she answered with a giggle. "Good grief, why did that old man marry me off to an unhinged woman like her." After that, Dante walked into the bathroom. His intention had been to mess with Vale, but he was the one who ended up annoyed. Days continued to pass, and Dante barely paid attention to Vale at all. After he discovered the truth that Vale was the woman he had accidentally hit with his car that night, all Dante did now was make amends. But as for accepting Vale as his wife, he hadn't thought about it yet. Dante deliberately only came home once a month. Without him realizing it, their marriage had already entered its eighth month. Everything Vale needed was prepared by the head housekeeper. Her life truly felt like that of the mistress of the house. However, something was strange in Kimmy's eyes. Vale’s body was growing weaker. Even though she hadn't been easily oppressed these past few months, over the last month, Vale's voice seemed to have disappeared, becoming almost inaudible to Kimmy. Meanwhile, Celine and Gerald were away on vacation, traveling around the countries they wanted to visit. "Madam Vale, the Master will be returning tonight, and you are requested to wait on the fifth floor," said Elza, one of the maids who had never liked Vale. She preferred Rania as Dante's partner. Vale knitted her brows. She still remembered what Dante had said: no one was allowed to go to the fifth floor, their limit was only up to the fourth floor. Heaven knows what was kept up there, but not a single person dared to violate the rule. Vale shook her head in refusal and gestured with her hands. Elza understood. "Ah, I mean the fourth floor," she corrected herself. Only then did Vale breathe a sigh of relief. Despite her doubts, Vale followed Elza and let the woman guide her into the elevator. They were on the second floor, and Elza directly pressed the button for the fifth floor. She knew very well that the fifth floor was a forbidden place—whatever was up there, a maid once went up out of curiosity and got caught by Dante, which ended in death. Upon arriving there, Elza herself felt nervous, but she had made sure no one saw her. She opened the door to the locked room, having intentionally taken the key from a careless head housekeeper. "Madam, please go inside," Elza commanded. Vale paused, frowning. The scent of the room was different from the bedroom she had been occupying all this time. Elza kept saying things to reassure her. Despite her hesitation, Vale stepped inside. And after making sure Vale was in, Elza quickly shut the room door again, but not before switching on the lights. Meanwhile, Vale felt entirely foreign in the room that Elza claimed was her bedroom. She took a step to the side and accidentally nudged something until the sound of shattering glass was heard. Vale flinched in shock. She immediately backed up, and unfortunately, she knocked something else over, until she felt truly terrified. Every single move she made produced the sound of breaking items. Vale’s body slid down to the floor. Whatever was happening in this room, it was clear that a lot of things had been destroyed. If she could see, this room would undoubtedly be a complete mess. Vale wanted to scream, but her throat felt painful. Heaven knows what was happening to her to make her experience something like this. The food and drinks she consumed were guaranteed to be of high quality, unless someone was deliberately making it so she couldn't speak. Vale lowered her head while weeping. "What should I do? Dante will definitely kill me," she murmured softly. She had heard from Kimmy that her husband would be coming home tonight. To be continued.
