Title: Some Truths Come With a Price
“Jaxon!"
I stopped right in my tracks,I clutched my fist fighting the urge to turn.
“That’s why I’m here,” she said, stepping closer behind my back. I could feel her warmth but it didn't turn.
“I know something happened. You looked scared this morning. You wouldn’t even look me in the eyes.” She touches me.
I looked back briefly and I looked away again.
I couldn’t lie to her face.
Not when her eyes looked like that. Not when her voice cracked just a little, like she was trying to stay strong but barely holding it together.
“You shouldn’t have come,” I muttered.
“Too late,” she shot back. “Tell me what happened. Please.”
God, I wanted to. Every part of me wanted to.
But I couldn’t do that to her. I couldn't let her see her father
