Liang Wei heaved a sigh of relief when he couldn't hear any sounds anymore. His eyes fell back on Su Yue’s head on his chest and he swallowed hard. He could feel her n*****s on his chest; it made him groan. He pulled her out of his arms.

Su Yue shook her head and backed away into the shower.

"Xu Xuan was just here! Can you be for real? Please go after him!"

The silence of his apartment was a stark contrast to the stifling tension of the day. His place has always been quiet, unless Mr. Shen or his sister was around. He moved through his kitchen with practiced efficiency, cooking a solitary meal. The rhythmic sound of chopping vegetables helped drown the echoes of his inner conflict about his recent rebellious self. Just as he sat down to eat, Mr. Shen’s call came in again.

He had ignored him the whole day. He was probably thinking of ways to deal with him, which would all lead to whooping his ass or f*****g him. A normal boyfriend should take his partner out on dates or even the cinema to make up. Mr. Shen was bad at everything outdoors except work, and indoors except s*x. He stared at the screen, rolling his eyes. He could almost feel Mr.Shen’s frustration through the phone. He pushed it aside.

Soon it stopped ringing, but the peace was short-lived; the phone buzzed again, sending the screen to life. He sighed and reluctantly reached for it.

"Your results are stagnant, Wei," his father’s voice was like a lash. "And I was just told you haven’t been to the company all summer. Do you take your life seriously or all you do is lay under your boyfriend.?"

"I was really not feeling well, believe me Dad," he lied, digging into his food.

"Liang Wei!" the old man yelled, drawing out a cough from his throat.

When he hung up, his appetite was gone. The pressure was mounting from every side—his father, Mr. Shen, and now the guilt of hiding the truth from Xu Xuan. He dropped the food back in the kitchen and headed to his room to get his assignments done.

By the time he was done, it was already late. He took his shower and climbed into bed to sleep when he remembered he had told Su Yue he’d call her.

"She must be waiting for it," he whispered, picking up his phone. Mr. Shen’s texts welcomed him. He threw the phone aside and grabbed his laptop.

The screen flickered to life, and soon Su Yue appeared in the soft glow of her bedside lamp. True to her innocent nature, she was already tucked away in her room, dressed in a thin silk nightdress. Did she wear that on purpose? he thought, a tiny smile playing around the corners of his lips. Her hair was loose, and her eyes were heavy with sleep, making her look vulnerable and soft—a turn-on for Mr. Shen.

"Wei?" she whispered, rubbing her eyes. "Is everything okay? You didn't answer my texts earlier."

"Sorry, I got very occupied and didn’t see them. I’ll check later," he explained, his voice cracking. He watched her through the screen, taking in the way she tilted her head when saying something and her little smiles when he said something nice. She talked of Wang Xingyi a lot but never mentioned the pills she had dragged her to the pharmacy to buy. When she asked why they can’t tell Xu Xuan about them, he replied, leaning his head against his hand,

"I need some time to figure out how to say it to him. He really likes you." He added, staring at her. Of course she likes him too,but only if she completes this task can they finally be together.
