Chapter 29
On the sixth day, Mr. Liang called, furious about his behavior and for not returning home as instructed. Liang Wei burst out, faking a cry. At that point, the only person who would get Mr. Shen back was his father, so skipping classes was just one way around it.
Mr. Shen’s phone rang immediately after Liang Wei dropped his. He stared at the phone nervously and hurried to answer it.
"You did not show up with Liang Wei as I said. What is going on?"
Mr. Shen glared at Chi Cheng, who was holding back a laugh, and stepped away.
"Erm... dad..sorry, an unplanned business trip came up and I couldn’t avoid it," he lied nervously, his palms sweating.
"Settle things and get back early. Wei is acting up."
The call went dead.
He looked from the phone to Chi Cheng, who couldn’t hold back anymore; he burst into laughter—the kind of laughter that only came out of him around Mr. Shen.
"Your father-in-law is still as cold as you," he said as Mr. Shen laid back on his lap.
"I seriously don’t know why I’m scared of him," he replied, staring at the blank screen.
The truth is , if Mr. Liang decided to take his son from him, what would he do? He had already done it once, when he found out Liang Wei wasn’t straight and they were together. With all his influence, Mr. Shen couldn’t locate where he had kept Liang Wei. For months, he had to prove himself worthy to get Liang Wei back, but even then, he knew Liang Wei played his cards too. Though cold, his father had a soft spot for him and his sister.
"You have to start thinking of heading back," Chi Cheng said, stroking his head on his lap.
"He’s just after this, believe me," he replied, pointing between his legs. Chi Cheng rolled his eyes, pushing his head away from his lap.
"Disgusting," he hissed, heading to the kitchen.
"I learned from the best!" Mr. Shen yelled after him, making him roll his eyes even more. A tiny smile played around his lips as he looked toward Mr. Shen from the kitchen, taking out a chopping board.
The following week, Mr. Shen passed by his apartment with Xu Yang to grab some files before heading to the office. Not long after he arrived, Liang Wei burst through the glass doors on his heels. He had received a message that Mr. Shen was around and ran out of class to see him, not even stopping to take his bag.
He stomped into Mr. Shen’s office, panting and yelling at anyone who stood in his way or tried to stop him. Mr. Shen was talking to Xu Yang and two others when he burst in. His heart raced, prompting him to stand up. Liang Wei stopped by the door, staring at him out of breath. Mr. Shen didn’t look away.
Mr Shen wanted to kiss and f**k him right there on his desk, but he refused to give him the satisfaction of knowing he’d missed him. He turned his back to him after glaring at Xu Yang. Xu Yang hesitated but still turned to Liang Wei.
"Wei,You can’t be in here, please," he said, trying to lead Liang Wei out, but he pushed him aside.
"Mr. Shen!!" he called out, running toward him, but Xu Yang caught him.
"Wei," he called, pulling him out. Wei tried to push him away, but Xu Yang was stronger.
"Dad... Daddy," his voice broke.
Mr. Shen’s stomach tightened. He turned around to grab his desk for support as Xu Yang finally dragged him out.
"Let go!" Liang Wei’s voice rang across the office as Xu Xuan hoisted him over his shoulder. "I’ll get you fired tomorrow! All of you!" he screamed, pointing at everyone staring.
"Put him down!" Chi Cheng’s calm and cold voice rang across the floor from the elevator.
Xu Yang quickly put Liang Wei down while the others busied themselves.Wei ran into Chi Cheng’s chest, tears instantly streaking down his face.
"I want all of them fired," he spat, pointing at the staff.
"All of them?" Chi Cheng asked, stroking his hair.
