The following week settled into an uneasy but necessary rhythm for the Richards household. Samantha returned to her piano practices with renewed, if complicated, passion. Jordan became a frequent visitor, offering quiet support and much-needed normalcy. He would sit with Samantha for hours in the living room, playing soft rhythms on a practice pad while she worked on new compositions. Their young relationship provided a safe harbor amid the emotional storm.
“You’re handling this better than I would,” Jordan told her one afternoon as they shared snacks on the couch. “Most people would freak out completely.”
Samantha leaned her head on his shoulder. “I have Mom. And now… I guess I have questions. Lots of them.”
Isabella watched their interactions with a mixture of warmth and protectiveness. Jordan was a good kid — respectful, ambitious (he dreamed of studying music production), and genuinely in love with her daughter. Seeing them together reminded her of simpler times, before the weight of the past had crashed back into their lives.
Meanwhile, Isabella’s professional life demanded her attention. Velora was preparing for its biggest showcase yet — a major sustainable fashion event downtown. She spent long hours at the studio finalizing designs, meeting with models, and reviewing marketing plans. Success had become her armor, but even the thrill of another milestone couldn’t fully distract her from Liam’s text.
She hadn’t replied yet.
Liam, for his part, respected the silence. He focused on work at Hale Global but made time for small gestures toward Samantha. He sent her a book on famous female composers with a simple note: “For when you’re ready. No pressure.” Samantha appreciated it, though she still needed time.
One Thursday evening, Samantha came home from school with Jordan. They found Isabella in the kitchen, preparing dinner.
“Mom,” Samantha said hesitantly, “I think I’m ready to talk to him again. All of us. Maybe next week?”
Isabella set down her knife and turned around. “If that’s what you want, we’ll do it. But on our terms. I won’t let him hurt you.”
Jordan nodded supportively. “I can be there too if you want moral support, Sam.”
The idea of including Jordan brought a small smile to Samantha’s face. “That might help.”
As the days passed, tension simmered beneath the surface. Isabella finally replied to Liam’s message with a short, businesslike note suggesting a meeting at a quiet park near their townhouse the following Saturday. Neutral ground. Public. Safe.
Liam agreed immediately.
On the day of the meeting, the park was peaceful — families picnicking, dogs playing, autumn leaves beginning to turn. Samantha arrived with her mother and Jordan. Liam was already waiting on a bench, looking nervous but determined. He stood when he saw them.
“Thank you for coming,” he said, his voice sincere. His eyes lingered on Isabella for a moment longer than necessary before shifting to Samantha. “And thank you for giving me another chance to explain.”
They sat on a cluster of benches. Jordan stayed a respectful distance but close enough for Samantha to feel supported.
Liam spoke first, addressing all of them but looking mostly at Isabella. “Sixteen years ago, I was selfish and scared. My father was grooming me to take over Hale Global. A child — especially from a one-night stand — felt like it would destroy everything I had been raised to become. I was wrong. Terribly wrong. I should have fought for you both instead of running.”
He turned to Samantha. “I can’t make up for the lost time. But I can be here now. As your father, if you’ll let me. As someone who wants to support your music and your dreams.”
Samantha wiped her eyes. “I want to try. But it’s going to take time. And you have to be patient with Mom too.”
Isabella remained quiet for a long moment, studying the man who had upended her life twice now. “I built a beautiful life without you, Liam. Samantha is happy, successful, and loved. If you want to be part of this, it has to be on our terms. No more secrets. No more disappearing.”
“I understand,” Liam said softly. His gaze held hers with an intensity that stirred old feelings she wasn’t ready to name. “I’m not going anywhere this time.”
The conversation continued for nearly two hours — careful, emotional, and occasionally painful. Jordan added gentle insights when needed, helping ease the tension. By the end, they had agreed to take things slowly: regular visits, co-parenting discussions, and no pressure on the romantic front.
As they walked back toward the parking lot, Samantha and Jordan walked ahead, giving Isabella and Liam a moment alone.
“You’ve done an incredible job with her,” Liam said quietly. “She’s remarkable. Just like her mother.”
Isabella stopped and faced him. “Don’t,” she warned, though her voice lacked its earlier bite. “Don’t try to charm your way back in. I’m not the same woman you met that night.”
“I know,” he replied, his expression serious. “And I’m not the same man. I’m hoping that’s a good thing.”
For the first time since the reunion, Isabella allowed herself a small, tentative smile. The road ahead was still long and uncertain, but the first real steps toward healing had been taken.
