After the fight at the drag strip, Shady didn't see her dad for a while. Things fell back to normal. She was at school one day with her two best friends Kody and Bobo. They were horse playing in the lunch line when she backed up into the boy standing behind her who was playing with his friends. She turned around to apologize at the same time he did. She immediately noticed that he looked eerily familiar. It was like looking into a mirror. They both said "Dude, that's my face. Who are you, and why do you look like me?" at the exact same time. It was really funny actually. They not only looked the same, but they talked and acted like the same person. After getting over the initial shock, Shady discovered that she had a half brother named Nick, who just like her, was their dad's spitting image. Chuck had been with his mom Sandy before he married her mom Angel. She wasn't sure exactly when all of this happened, but Nick was only a year, a month, and a day older than she was. His mom never told him about his dad or that he had not just one but two little sisters. Shady and Nick used the fact that they looked the same to switch places at school. She loved to learn new things and was really smart. Surprisingly, the teachers never noticed them swapping classes, or they just didn't care.

One day, Shady and Nick were playing football in the back yard of her house. It was one of the rare days Angel had actually come over to see them. They had been tackling each other for a few hours already, and Nick was getting upset that she was beating him. That was another trait they shared, neither one of them liked coming in second place in anything they did. The next play, Nick spear tackled Shady, but neither one of them had been paying attention to how close they were to the fence. They both went flying through the fence that separated her house from the apartments next door. One of the boards had popped her in the mouth on their way through. Shady stood up and spit at him, only to notice it was mostly blood. She decided to spit in her hand so she could slap him with it but quickly stopped when she noticed her 4 lower teeth sat in the middle of her palm.

Shady showed her brother what happened, and together they ran into the house. Angel and Nanny were busy in the kitchen making lunch for everyone. Angel turned around when she heard them come running inside and stood there shocked by Nick. It was her first time meeting him. Once she got over the initial shock of seeing her daughter's twin, she finally noticed the blood running down Shady's face. Before she could ask the kids what had happened, Shady held out her hand that contained her teeth and smiled up at her mom while saying "Look mom, we knocked my teeth out. By the way, there is also a huge hole in the fence." Angel couldn't believe what she was seeing. She told the kids to get into the car so she could take him home and talk to his mom about a few things. He only lived about 10 minutes away, so it didn't take them long to reach his house. Sandy, Nick's mom, was parking her car when they pulled up in front of her house. She had known Angel, but Angel was completely clueless. Sandy immediately became defensive when Angel stepped out with Nick and Shady right behind her. She demanded to know why they were there, and why her son was with them. Angel explained that Nick had knocked his sister's teeth out while playing football. That was apparently the wrong thing to say. Sandy snatched Nick inside, told them he didn't have a sister, and slammed the door in their face. She had thought the girls lived with Angel in Loganville. It was her plan to never let the kids meet or even know about each other, since she saw Angel as the reason Chuck had left her alone with a new born son at home. If she only knew what had happened between Chuck and Angel, she would see it as a blessing. The next day, Shady rode over to see Nick and show him her new teeth. She noticed his mom's car wasn't there. Sandy had packed up their stuff and moved away that same night, and Shady never saw them again.
