The Alpha in a Suit

536 Words
The rooftop of Fenrir Tower was reserved for solitude Zaria’s one place to think without judgment or noise. She often came here when the past clawed at her, when her wolf stirred beneath her skin, restless and hungry for something more than courtrooms and contracts. She took a long sip of black coffee and leaned on the railing. Then she felt it a presence. Dominant. Calm. Dangerous. She turned before the footsteps even reached her. He was already watching her. A tall man in a charcoal three-piece suit. Clean-shaven. Cold steel eyes. Hair pushed back like he didn’t have time to care how perfect it looked. There was something primal about the way he carried himself, despite the sleek human exterior. Zaria didn’t flinch. “You’re trespassing.” He offered a faint smile. “I own the building across the street. And the air rights. Technically, I’m floating in my own territory.” Zaria raised an eyebrow. “You didn’t come here to flirt with property law.” “No.” He stepped closer. “I came here for you.” That voice. It wasn’t human. Her wolf bristled beneath her skin, alert. “Who are you?” she asked, cool but sharp. “Alpha Soren Vexley. CEO of Vexley Industries. Technically human by registration. Shifter by blood. Unmated by choice.” His eyes lingered on her just long enough to make it clear he wasn’t here by accident. “And I’ve been watching your rise for weeks.” Zaria crossed her arms. “You’re not the first Alpha to show up since I left my old life. Most of them want to claim me. The others want to use me.” “And which do you think I am?” She paused. “I haven’t decided yet.” He chuckled, low and smooth. “Good. I hate easy women.” Her eyes narrowed. “I meant,” he said, holding up both hands, “I hate when things come too easily. And you, Zaria Fenrir, are not easy to predict. Which is exactly why I’m here.” “I don’t work for men.” “I’m not offering a job. I’m offering a stake.” She tilted her head. “In the East River project,” he explained. “The city’s most dangerous real estate and legal minefield. Most investors walked away. But I’ve studied your firm. And I know only one woman can fight the wolves behind those contracts.” Zaria’s lips curved. “You want me to help you devour them.” Soren smiled. “And in return, I’ll stand beside you when your past comes knocking.” Zaria stepped forward until they were only inches apart. “You don’t know a damn thing about my past.” “Not yet,” he murmured, “but I want to.” For a moment, the wind blew between them like a whispered promise. She didn’t trust him. Not fully. But her instincts didn’t scream danger. They whispered… finally, a worthy player. Zaria turned back to the skyline. “Send the documents. If I smell even a hint of betrayal, I’ll bury you with your own lawyers.” Soren grinned. “Fair enough, Queen.”
