Lena’s world tilted.
Adrian’s words clung to the air between them, impossible to ignore.
Because I hear them too.
The whispers she had spent weeks questioning, doubting, and fearing—they weren’t just hers. They weren’t just in her head.
“How long?” she asked, her voice barely a whisper.
Adrian looked away, running a hand through his hair. “Since I was a kid. I used to think I was imagining things… until I met him.”
“Damian?”
He nodded, his jaw tight. “I don’t know what he’s told you, but there’s more to this than you realize. More than even I understand.”
Lena swallowed the lump in her throat. “So you’ve known about this for years? About the whispers, about him?”
“Not everything,” Adrian admitted. “But I know enough to warn you.” He stepped closer, his amber eyes serious. “You need to be careful around him.”
Lena hesitated. She knew Damian was mysterious, even unnerving at times, but something about Adrian’s intensity unsettled her. “Why?”
Adrian hesitated, then exhaled sharply. “Because he’s dangerous.”
The words hit her like a slap.
Dangerous.
She thought about the way Damian had protected her, the way his presence felt both chilling and intoxicating. Could Adrian be wrong about him? Or was there something she wasn’t seeing?
“You don’t understand him,” she said carefully.
Adrian’s expression darkened. “And you do?”
Lena faltered. “I… I don’t know. But he hasn’t hurt me.”
“Not yet.”
The certainty in Adrian’s voice sent a shiver down her spine.
A sudden gust of wind rustled the trees around them, and for a brief moment, Lena swore she heard the whispers again—low, distant, just out of reach.
Both of them tensed.
“You hear them now, don’t you?” Adrian murmured.
Lena barely nodded.
Adrian cursed under his breath. “They’re getting stronger.”
Lena’s hands curled into fists. “What do they want?”
Adrian’s gaze burned into hers. “That’s what I’ve been trying to figure out. But whatever it is… it’s not over.”
A chill wrapped around Lena’s spine, and for the first time, she realized something terrifying.
She wasn’t sure if she wanted the whispers to stop
.
She was scared, Afraid but still wanted to know the mysteries lurking around
At times she felt uncertain with what to do or the steps she had to take but deep down she knew she was meant for more
