Winter deepened. Snow piled up on snow. The streets grew treacherous with slush and ice and the driving wind howled in the bare trees. Two days before Christmas, on a particularly icy and unpleasant morning, Drew sat on the sofa in his apartment, staring out the window at a sky that seemed most reluctant to light up. I"m not a huge fan of winter, he admitted to himself. It reminds him too much of Alyssa. I can still see her, wearing the secondhand black coat and the gloves I bought for her, smiling, her dimples showing, as we walked around the high school campus, hand in hand. I still don"t understand what had gone wrong. I loved that girl so much. If I haven"t begun to get over it by now, I should probably consider relocating once I finish my residency. Going someplace warm and sunny wit
