There are twelve men in Cody’s team, for now. Cody has heard them carrying on behind her, all in good spirits. The Emerging will occur this eve and last two days and two nights, and there will be hundreds of Fire Scales for the taking, so everyone is a jolly good friend.
For now.
The men have chosen their lairs and their partners. Some will set off alone when the Fire Scales strike out at dusk, but that’s hours away. The Ascension Day sun is high, and the men march together up the far side of the Summer Alps. Cody is leading them.
It’s an inadvertent leadership, but she leads them anyway. It’s only because she’s so quick.
