THREE

“This is where you'll sleep. The king will send for you if he needs you” The woman from the auction before showed me my room. It was an extremely small cell, it smelled awful like someone was killed inside before. There was nothing in the room except a small mat by the side which I was getting was my bed. I sighed, I could already see how my life would be in the palace from now on.

The auction was concluded after I was sold, the king stood up from his seat, chatted with a few dignitaries and left the hall. He didn't once acknowledge my presence or the fact that we were mates, he wasn't any different from Cole. I learned my lesson yesterday, like the phrase, once bitten twice shy. After finding out the King was my second chance mate, I didn't rush up to him or say a word, I just acted calm and stood by the side quietly. If he was going to ignore the bond then I would too, it was safer that way, I didn't want to feel the pain I had felt yesterday again. When he left, I was confused whether I should follow him or not, luckily the woman walked up to me and told me to follow her. She brought me to this cell and that's why we were here.

“Okay”

“The bathroom is down the hallway and I'll be in charge of bringing your meal which is once a day” she instructed.

I nodded and she turned around to leave, I quickly asked, “What does the king require of me, what are my duties to the King?”

She stopped and turned back before saying, “You will join the maids to cook, clean and do other chores, if the king specially needs you, he will send for you” she answered with a blank face before turning and leaving.

I wondered if the other maids were like me, were they also omegas who was bought and assigned to house chores with the job of keeping the king's bed warm by the side. Somehow, the thought of other girls sleeping with the King infuriated me, people with power like him had no regards for their mates. I was also hurt that he completely ignored me and who I was to him, a second chance mate was supposed to be different from the first. If the first mate rejected me, the second mate would not. If the first mate treated me like dirt, the second mate was there was treat me better. Hence the name, second chance. But why does it look like my first mate and my second chance mate was the same, was my life really that damned?

I sighed and went into the cell, I was exhausted after today's auction so I decided to lie down and take a small nap, the room stinks and it was difficult to breathe but I was too tired to care, I didn't know when I fell asleep.

“Rissa, come on, come see”

“Follow us Rissa”

“Quickly now, come”

Voices called out to me like wind caressing my skin, I was in a room while I could hear the voice outside. I stepped out of the room slowly, only to be open to a luscious garden that looked like paradise on Earth. I couldn't hear the voices nor could I see the room I walked out of. I didn't stand long before I saw a young woman walk into the garden, she looked like she was in a hurry and someone was after her. Her face was blurry so I couldn't tell the distinct features. I followed her till she went to a fence at the end of the garden, she bent down and touched the ground and soon began to shift. Her clothes were ripped as she shifted into a monstrous wolf, she was monstrous because I had never seen a wolf like her. She was bigger than even an alpha and she had red angry eyes that seemed to want to burn the world to cinders. I began to hear people running, the people after her were gaining on her, she looked back and howled before heaving up and jumping over the tall fence.

My mouth fell open in shock, I didn't know when I said wow watching her jump, I never knew a wolf that could do that, she looked different from wolves, who is she?

As soon as she was over the wall, the people who chased after her arrived. There were three of them, one was in wolf form and the other two were in human form. The one in wolf form heaved himself off the ground to go over the wall but he couldn't get across, he was not as strong as the woman from before.

After trying several times, one of the men in human form said, “It's no use, we are too weak compared to her” his voice sounded defeated.

“But we need to find her no matter what, she's too powerful to come out in the open and she's pregnant” The other man chipped in, worried and restless.

“Call the search team to go look for her, they must find her at all cost or they shouldn't bother returned” The former man instructed.

“Yes Sir, right away” The later man replied and bowed a little in respect before leaving with the other wolf.

“Rissa, come on, come and see” The voices were back, they sounded excited as I felt pulled out of the scene, just when I was about to see where I was now, I felt cold water on my body jolting me awake.

I woke up to see the king standing in my cell along with the woman from the auction. She was holding an empty pail, which meant she was the one that poured me water.

“This place stinks but I guess someone who is already dirty won't be able to tell” The king said with a nonchalant face with no emotions in his eyes.

I quickly got up and lowered my head in respect, I didn't know what to say so I just kept quiet. I could feel the king's eyes bore into my soul, his intense gaze made me squirm.

“There is no day off in the palace, clean this place up and join the other maids to work” he ordered and stormed out of the cell.

The woman remained, she handed me a set of clothes that looked like a uniform and said, “Get this place and yourself cleaned up and put on the uniform. You have 30 minutes to do that and meet me outside” she instructed and started walking out of the cell.

“Ma'am…” I stammered and called.

“Call me Miss Carrie” she said and she turned around to look at me.

“Miss Carrie w..where can I get uhm… cleaning supplies?” I asked.

“The cleaning supplies are in the room by the restroom,” she said.

“Okay, thank you” I replied and stepped out of the cell. Miss Carrie was about to walk out of the main entrance when she stopped and said, “The palace isn't what everyone sees, be careful and alert at all times” she went out of the door before I could even say anything. What does she mean?

I stood still for a moment as I thought of what she just said, I didn't know what she meant but I was glad that she was at least concerned about me. It was what I severely lacked at the moment. I looked around the room and the empty cells. I assume the other girls slept here too but it was empty because they were all working. The room was dimly lit and in all the cells, there was barely anything apart from the mat and some pieces of clothing. Was my cell also taken before? Where was the previous occupant and why does the cell smell so bad like someone died in it?

I sighed, this was the most alone I had felt, I had no one here, no parents or friends, nothing. My mate was my master who bought me for 5000 dollars and hated me like everyone. He was the king who treated his Luna like a scum of the earth and was ready to make my life miserable because I was born an Omega. So far, I have been rejected by two mates, the second just hasn't said yet but I know he will soon. Do I really deserve such pain, what wrong did I do to be so unfortunate in life? Do I really deserve what I'm going through?

I was overwhelmed by emotions that I didn't know when I started crying. The tears didn't stop streaming down and my heart constricted painfully as I cried my heart out. My knees felt weak and gave me, causing me to fall to the ground and weep like a child.

Dad, please why won't you come take me away? I keep begging but you don't answer… have you forgotten about me already?

Today marked the beginning of my new life in a strange place with so many people who disliked me. This was the second place I have ever known since I was born and there were so many things, so many people here. I could already tell it wasn't going to be easy, not in the least… but Dad, since you can't take me away, can you watch over me please? You are the only person I know who cares about me. So please watch my back for me till I am able to join you over there…
