“Olivia!” her mom called from the bottom of the stairs. “It’s time to get up. It’s the first day of school. You don’t want to be late.”
Olivia groaned. She swatted at her phone that nearly fell off the nightstand; unplugging it, Olivia, then, checked her the time. 7:42, too early, but she had to go to school despite what she wanted. She pulls the covers off and shivered against the cool air in her bedroom. She got up and put on a pair of booty shorts and a tube crop top. She slipped on a pair of Birkenstocks and grabbed her bag before heading downstairs.
"Sweetheart, your hair is a mess. Are you going to fix it? At least brush it?" Her mom looked at Olivia with the buttered toast she made for Olivia on the plate in her hand.
"Mom, really? I don't have time." Olivia whined.
"Honey, I'll brush your hair while you eat then you can go brush your teeth and head to school when you're done."
"Okay, but make it pretty. A Dutch braid will do."
"Okay, sit down and eat your toast." Olivia's mom smiled. "You're going to look great for your first day of Junior year." She squeezed Olivia's shoulders then started brushing her hair.
After Olivia was done with her breakfast, her hair was done, and her teeth brushed, she headed off to school. Today was a new start.
