Chapter 9Horns blared from the city walls of Tanchar in a bone-shaking wave of sound upon their late afternoon arrival. Vius chuckled from his place in front of Solna in the saddle on his Consort’s miraculously fine bay. “Too much?” Solna leaned into his back as the fanfare continued. “Maybe a little. I normally don’t like this kind of welcome at Helano.” “Well, you will have to get used to it. All royalty is greeted this way, here.” Vius turned his head enough to kiss his husband’s cheek when Solna groaned in dismay. “It’s not so bad once you are used to it, Solna.” “I’ll take your word for it,” Solna grumbled, but smiled anyway. “What duties must be done immediately and what can wait until tomorrow?” “Only the announcement of my return, I think.” Vius had to think about it past that.
