Chapter17: Unsolved Mystery

1658 Words
The Lovebirds entered the penthouse and were welcomed by their fur babies happily wagging their tails. Shivaan leans forward to pet both dogs but is smothered with sloppy kisses from their beautiful hounds. Mishti is about to help Shivaan up when her phone rings, she answers the call but doesn’t recognize the female voice. “You w***e, let’s see how tough you really are, Shivaan will be mine.” The call ends before Mishti could reply. She flings her phone on the couch in annoyance. Shivaan places his hand on Mishti’s shoulder. “Babygal, is everything alright.” Mishti huffs in frustration, “Yes, I’m just tired of this dumb Bimbo and her empty threats.” Shivaan pulls his sweet wife into a warm embrace. Their romantic moment was interrupted by the doorbell. Shivaan finds a big yellow envelope at his doorstep. Shivaan opens the envelope and grinds his teeth with anger. Mishti gasps when she sees the contents of the envelope, a scarf, underwear and photos of her sleeping, in a towel and on the balcony in her maternal home. She feels sick in the stomach when she reads the note accompanying her personal items, “You think you can escape your destiny, I’ll soon make you a widow. You were mine the day I laid eyes on you, that F**ker thinks he has won, little does he know I will soon be ravishing that Goddess-like body of yours.” Mishti squashes the note in disgust. “I know this p*****t, it has to be Akshay.” A jaw clenched Shivaan has a murderous look. “It’s time to teach that Ba**ard a lesson. He has messed with the wrong person, time to show him the real Shivaan.” Mishti tries to calm her raging husband, but her efforts are futile. The couple are interrupted by squabbling. Drishti and Alok stop dead in their tracks when they notice the intense expression on Shivaan’s face. Alok jokingly says, “Yoh bro, I thought you would be floating on cloud 9 after having my beautiful sister-in-law all to yourself for a week.” Drishti slaps Alok on the back of his head. “Enough of your crappy jokes Mr Dumbass, can’t you see something is seriously wrong.” Alok makes a crying face as he rubs the back of his head. “Hey, just trying to lighten up the gloomy mood, no need to be abusive Tigress.” Mishti breaks into a small smile as Alok puts his arm around her. Drishti notices the note and is fuming after reading it. Alok raised and eyebrow while proceeding to snatch the crumpled note from Drishti, needless to say, he is furious. “Let’s pay that B**tard Akshay a visit, I’m going to teach him not to mess with us.” Mishti looks at the three angry faces before her. “Guys let’s all calm down for a second before we act impulsively. Shivaan, the last thing you need is a lawsuit or assault charge.” Drishti grabs Alok’s hand, pulling him towards Mishti. “I understand why you stopped Jiju from visiting that brainless pig, but please don’t stop us from getting to the bottom of this p*****t’s disgusting games.” Alok winks at Mishti, “little sis, I promise to keep Tigress under control. We will not let that a**hole get away this time.” The Frenemy duo reaches Singhania enterprises. Alok turns on his charm while flashing Akshay’s receptionist a flirtatious smile, “Hi beautiful, I would like to meet with Mr Singhania please.” The flustered receptionist replied. “I’m sorry sir, Mr Singhania is on a business trip and will only return after a week.” Drishti clenches her fist. “The coward decides to pester my Di whilst hiding.” Alok quickly leads his angry tigress out of the building before she does something they both regret. He turned Drishti to face him. “Relax, Tigress, we will get to the bottom of this.” Drishti replied with irritation, “I’m tired of this sadist, he has hurt my Di enough. I wish I could beat him up again.” Alok chokes on his saliva, his expression makes Drishti erupt into a fit of laughter. “Awe, what’s the matter, Mr Playboy, if I didn’t know any better, I would say you afraid of me.” Alok pins Drishti against his Ferrari while placing a soft kiss on her cheek. He whispered, “How can I be afraid of my future wife. I’m going to enjoy taming you, my Tigress.” Drishti felt her heart gallop; it’s the first time she is left speechless. Drishti’s mind is wandering; she doesn’t understand her strange attraction toward her once playboy enemy. She is interrupted by the gentle squeeze on her hand. “I can see that you are stressed, my Tigress, I promise we will solve this mystery.” Drishti looks out the window and realizes that they have reached the Penthouse. Drishti and Alok enter the Penthouse, only to find a very anxious Shivaan. “Well, don’t keep me in suspense, did you two get any useful information to solve this mystery?" Drishti looked at her brother-in-law with a sullen look. “No Jiju that moron was out of town. He will unfortunately only be back next week.” Shivaan replied, “I know this is frustrating, but we will get to the bottom of this soon.” Shivaan signals Alok to follow him to the study whilst Drishti asks Mishti to accompany her to the dog park with their furry friends. The adorable fur babies bark in excitement when they hear the word dog park. Mishti forgets all her troubles as she watches her fur-babies enjoying themselves playing fetch with Drishti. Shivaan gulps a glass of whiskey. “Bro, I have been thinking, there is one person we may have missed,” said Alok. Shivaan replied, “Well, don’t keep me in suspense, who is your new suspect?” Alok rolled his eyes, “Why Kate off course.” Shivaan groaned, “I’m going to make that Goldigger pay for messing with my girl.” The brothers arrive at Kate’s apartment, only to find it empty, all her belongings have been removed. Shivaan tries calling her mobile, but her number is unreachable. Shivaan asks Alok to wait in the car while he enters the building where the modeling agency Kate works at is located. He is disappointed when Kate’s employer tells him that Kate had a family emergency, causing her to leave London for a while. Shivaan slams the door in anger, “Looks like we hit another dead end. Kate is out of town according to her employer.” Alok sighs but remains silent. Shivaan was about to enter the theater room to meet Mishti and Drishti, but Alok stops him. “Bro, I think it’s time to turn my fierce tigress into a whining little kitten once again.” Shivaan shook his head in amusement at his brother’s childish behavior. Alok sneaks up on an unsuspecting Drishti whom is engrossed in a Hindi horror movie and pounces on her which lead to her screaming in terror. “Awe is my tigress a scared little kitten now, payback is a B##ch,” yelled Alok. Drishti tackles Alok, causing him to lose his balance. “You right, payback is a B##ch,” smirked Drishti. Mishti throws a cushion at Drishti, “Choti, how could you trick me into watching this terrifying movie!!!” Drishti giggled, “I didn’t trick you. Di, you just assumed the genre was romance when you heard the word love story on the title of the movie.” Alok rubs his lower back making a painful expression. “My Tigress, I think you have packed on a few pounds.” Drishti smiled triumphantly, “Let me make two things clear Mr Playboy, first I’m not yours and second it’s not fat it’s called muscle baby, something you seriously lack.” That night, Mishti awakens to Shivaan mumbling in his sleep, suddenly he screams the name Mishka. She could hear the pain and terror in his voice. Shivaan jerks awake and grabs his startled wife in his arms. She embraced him in her small arms, trying to soothe his pain. “Babygal, promise you will never leave me, I’m tired of losing people I love,” whispered Shivaan. Mishti pulled away from their warm embrace, she placed her soft hand on Shivaan’s cheek, “I promise but I need to know the truth, who is Mishka?” Shivaan replied in a broken voice, “You mean who was Mishka.” Shivaan turned away from Mishti because he didn’t want her to see the tears that formed in his steel grey eyes. “I met Mishka at the Little Angel’s Orphanage; she was just two months while I was five. I can’t explain it, but I felt the intense need to protect her. When we got older Alok, Mishka and I were inseparable. I worked many different jobs to provide for us, on my 18th birthday we decided to take a road trip, but we never made it to our destination. All I remember was waking up in the hospital and being told by Alok that Mishka didn’t survive the accident. This was when we met mum and dad, they were friends of our biological parents.” Shivaan turned to face Mishti, tears streaming down his face. Mishti hugs Shivaan, “It was an accident. I’m sure Mishka wouldn’t be happy seeing you blaming yourself.” Shivaan broke down for the first time in years but this time he had someone to comfort him. Mishti guided Shivaan towards their bed, he laid his head on her lap while his kind-hearted wife gently massaged his head trying to sooth his pain. The couple soon fell asleep heading toward a world of their own.
