The Other Luna

Day 21

When I finally woke up, I couldn't bring myself to open my eyes. It seemed too good to be true, for the first time in weeks I had woken up without having nightmares. I was afraid that if I opened my eyes, everything would disappear and go back to normal. I noticed that I was no longer in the field of corn and that I was in a bed. The bed was just the right temperature and made it even more welcoming. Shifting, I let myself relax and fell asleep once more.

The second time I woke up, people were talking outside my door and although I could not hear what they were saying I knew that it was Cole and Ryker. I shifted in my bed and sat up to stretch. Then I patted down my hair and yawned. I got out of the bed, feeling more awake and energized than ever and made my way to the door. I turned the doorknob and came face to face with Aidan.

Relief washed over his face and I took a few steps back. In a matter of seconds, I was engulfed in his arms. I didn't return his hug, instead, looking over his shoulder at Cole with wide eyes.

Aidan didn't seem to get the message of not wanting him there. Even when I started to squirm, he didn't let go of me and it was becoming quite awkward. I looked at Ryker for help and he understood immediately, pulling Aidan off me.

"She just woke up, let her breathe" Aidan just glared at him

"How do you feel?" Cole asks me. I ignore his question I respond with another.

"How long was I asleep?" Ryker looked down at his watch, pressed a button and announced

"Sixteen hours and thirty-seven minutes" I nodded my head. I wasn't surprised by that. Aidan hadn't said anything to me since he hugged me, and I brought my eyes to meet his.

Nobody said anything, and I was relieved when Evan rounded the corner of the hall and started talking,

"Hey guys, I think I found... Oh, Mia. Are you feeling okay?" This time I answered his question.

"Yeah, I feel fine"

"We're all relieved to hear that" He responded. I just nodded my head. Suddenly the doctor walked in and when he noticed me his eyebrows furrowed.

"No no, you should still be in bed. You four, out" He shooed them out of the room while I hopped back onto the bed. "I'm going to do some tests on you and hopefully you'll be up and running fairly quickly"

"What happened?" He had his back to me while he prepared some tools.

"Alpha Aidan found you in the field. You shouldn’t have left, but what's done is done. You're lucky he did find you because without him you would have never woken up"

"Why did he come?"

"When we couldn't find you, Alpha Cole called Alpha Aidan and when he heard you were gone, he came immediately" I looked out the window as he said this. As much as I wanted to believe that he loved me, I continually reminded myself that even if he did, he wasn't worth it.

The doctor approached me with a needle and took a blood sample, then left in a hurry reminding me to stay put.

As soon as he left Aidan walked into the room.

"I'm sorry" I didn't answer him "I didn't know you were suffering" He looked sincere, but then again, he always did.

"You shouldn't have come here" I looked away from him

"I know you're upset, but please forgive me. I told Olivia that I no longer wanted her as my mate and took her title. You can come back with me. Be my Luna, the rightful Luna of this pack." He looked so hopeful.

"No" my voice was only a bit louder than a whisper.

"Why not" His eyes were wide, like mine when I found out he had another mate.

"I can't do this"

"Why? We're made for each other"

"If we were made for each other, you would have realized that a long time ago."

"I'm sorry, I was blinded by wanting to do right for the pack."

"Well, you ended up doing wrong for your mate."

"Please" He begged.

"I waited 21 days for you to realize that you needed me. It only took me one. I waited for you. But you never had to wait for me. I cried countless times, the pain I went through. You felt nothing, no remorse. Not when I went unconscious, not when I couldn't sleep, not now, not ever. I'm sorry but I can't do this" He looked sad for a moment before becoming angry.

"You're a stupid girl you know that? You can't reject me. I won't have a mate, and you won't either. I can't lead a pack by myself. You don't have a choice"

"That's not my problem anymore, that's yours. You should have realized what you were missing before you picked her over me" I was shocked by his bluntness.

"I haven't picked anyone yet, I still have over a week before I need to pick. A month is almost over, and I'll pick you I swear."

"I'm sure you will, but that's not the problem. The problem is that you pick me the first time around. Never mind the fact that I waited to find my mate before getting into a relationship and you didn’t."

"But that's in the past now. What matters, is that I have you now"

"You don't have me. You never will. I'm sorry but no" The more he spoke the surer I was of my answer.

"I will not take no as an answer" I could feel his alpha tone coming in.

"Don't you dare use that on me"

"As your Alpha, I command you to become my Luna" I wanted to say no, but when I opened my mouth, no sound came out.

"You know what Aidan. Leave me alone. I hate you" My voice was quiet and as soon as I finished talking, I turned around in my bed and closed my eyes. At least I had tried.
